Just wondering what's the best facial routine for someone in their late 30s. I'm a face wash and go kind of person but have been reading up about having a routine, getting confused with serums, gels etc I don't know what I should be using and in what order. I have very very dry skin with a bit of rosaeca. Any tips?

Hi,

You need to use Vit C serum, plus SPF 50 if you're not already. 30's is the time to start. At night you need to acid exfoliate every few days to renew your skin, and use retinol for skin quality.

The Ordinary have good reasonably priced products and Dermatica can help with the retinol (or tretanoin) with your particular skin.

Routine as follows:

AM:
Vitamin c serum
Moisturiser
SPF 50
(In that order)

PM:
Double cleanse
Retinol OR glycolic acid exfoliation (one or other alternate or retinol 5 days, glycolic 3 days, but never together)
Peptides moisturiser

Also add Hyruolic acid serums before the moisturiser in each routine should you wish to have an extra moisture / plumping boost.

Have a look at Dr Dray on YouTube. She suggests a very simple routine and has videos on rosacea. If you have sensitive skin will need to use very gentle products.

AM cleanse and sunscreen (I don't need separate moisturizer but you may do)

Pm cleanse, serum, moisturizer

Cleanser (I like Roche Posey toleriane) or simple oil cleanser if I've worn makeup. Avoid foaming cleanser if you tend towards dryness.

Serum ( I alternate retinol & niacinamide, you may find retinol too irritating though)

Moisturiser toleriane Riche (cerave pm includes niacinamide so you could get away with skipping serum)

Sunscreen Altruist on Amazon

I don't find I need to exfoliate as my skin is fine without it and using a gentle cleanser with my fingers is enough.

There are a fair few members of this forum who are really into skincare and they give great advice. However, my tip is that the best skincare routine is one that you actually do day in, day out. So be realistic before you spend money on a number of products that ultimately may sit on your shelf unused.
