All tum, no bum - jeans?

I'm relatively tall and slim but I'm an apple shape and after 2 babies have more of a pronounced tummy and a flattish bum.

I really want to wear something that's NOT skinny jeans, but I've yet to find non skinny jeans that fit my tummy but then aren't huge and gaping around my bum and thighs.

Now I know mom jeans are supposed to be a bit loose about the hips but they just do nothing for me except accentuate that all my weight is around my waist.

Any other apple shaped ladies can recommend a jeans style that might work? I'm not sure about bootcut styles as I live in flats and that feels very early 00's to me?!

Anyone had jeans taken in around the bum/ thighs - is that possible?

Thank you!!

I think apples tend to be slim of thigh, so you could try boot cut.

Or you could buy a size up in stiff, denim, non stretch skinnies or slim fit. So they fit your waistband but are looser on the leg, so not skinny.

chachachanges · 17/05/2021 17:56

Yes, thanks I am slim of thigh. Bootcut used to be good on me but I feel I'd have to wear a heel with them so not the best everyday option

I'm going to keep investigating, thank you!

I am an apple, not particularly tall though, but definitely all tum & no hips & bum!
I’ve found M&S Harper jeans fit me well, I have to size down. They are straight cut.
I’ve also got a pair of rag & bone jeans, which are a great fit, but they are £££ (I bought mine in the sale).
I will proviso this advice with the fact that I am old! Late fifties, so I can’t vouch for any fashion appropriateness, just the cut!

I'm a similarly shaped hourglass, as in my waist goes in at the sides and gave up on jeans years ago. I can never find ones that fit my hips that aren't hugely big around the back of the waist. I recently bought a pair of treggings but they do the same.I'm going to stick to elasticated waists in future.

PickAChew · 17/05/2021 18:33

I've found that most styles in M&S fit me well.

Bigsighall · 17/05/2021 18:33

I’m the same shape and I can’t tell you the amount of jeans I’ve ordered and sent back. I’m sticking with skinny jeans now!

Same here, it's a nightmare. Topshop are generally good for apples, as are H&M, M&S, TU & Dorothy Perkins. I dont know any mid or higher end brands that cater to our shape.

Geamhradh · 18/05/2021 07:09

M&S, my most flattering are called "slim boot".
Fit perfectly.

lavenderlou · 18/05/2021 07:14

I am the same shape as you. Avoid anyhing high-waisted. They are tight around the middle because I don't go in at the waist and the higher fit makes my bum look really long and flat. Mom jeans are also unflattering. I have a mid-rise pair of slim fit from Next which I like at the moment. I also have a pair with a slight boot cut which are flattering and are the right length to be worn with trainers rather than boots.

Frequentflier · 18/05/2021 10:16

Am the same shape. M and S Lily straight leg jeans work the best for me, though not perfect. Must admit I am eying pull on trousers now.

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 18/05/2021 10:57

Proper 501 original unisex jeans. Try them. I have to force myself to wear anything else (I have two pairs now) and have had so many compliments.

chachachanges · 18/05/2021 16:29

Thanks all - sounds like M&S might be a goer - wouldn't have thought of them for jeans!

Skinnies do suit me as my legs are undoubtedly my best feature, but everyone is saying they're over and I'm just marking myself as an uncool mummy millenial (with a side parting too Grin)

I am going to investigate all your suggestions - thanks so much

I like Next Lift, Slim and Shape jeans. I'm similarly shaped

tobee · 18/05/2021 17:01

Currently wearing their slim ones

Twilightstarbright · 19/05/2021 08:02

@chachachanges I have the same problem- down to the side parting!
Mom jeans really don’t suit me. The best I can do is straight leg/slim jeans rolled up a bit to be ankle grazers as a nod to the mom jean/ankle grazer look.

Northernsoullover · 19/05/2021 08:04

Next Enhancer straight leg are my go to now.

I’m a similar shape, and recently bought these Levi’s jeans (after trying many others). The shape fits perfectly around my tummy, and is fitted enough elsewhere, although they look looser on me than on the model (due to my thighs being slimmer than the rest of me!):

www.levi.com/GB/en_GB/clothing/women/jeans/314-shaping-straight-jeans/p/196310123

The waistband has a comfortable stretch and holds up well. I had to size down one size from my normal one, but they do free returns.

ElspethFlashman · 19/05/2021 09:16

My Levi 501s have been a life saver. The modern ones which are a bit narrower and ankle length.

Have heard great things about M&S Harper jeans but they are permanently sold out so haven't been able to try them yet. It must be a good sign though!
