Why can't I wear liquid liner?

Every time I try to use liquid liner I end up with a shadow line on my eyelids where it has transferred. Even if I keep my eyes closed for a couple of minutes for it to dry it still happens! I've tried using gel liner with a brush because I thought that would be drier than a liquid but it still happened and looks so stupid Blush

I've googled videos of how to apply it and can't see what I'm doing wrong. Is it just because I have saggy eyelids? Sad

Are your eyes hooded? Or maybe they get oily and it makes the eyeliner transfer? If you haven't already you could try a waterproof eyeliner. Elizabeth Arden is supposed to be smudge and transfer proof. L'Oréal and NYX also do waterproof liquid eyeliners you could try which are cheaper? I've also heard that setting your eyes with some eyeshadow can prevent smudging because it absorbs the excess oil on your eyelids.

I have oily eyelids and this happens even with waterproof liner. I just add a bit of a translucent powder before I do my liner. I'm sure there are primers etc that can help, but I'm too cheap to buy them lol.

I have oily hooded eyelids so I have this problem. Nothing seems to have helped, as adding powder only lasts a short while for me. I gave up in the end

Have you tried to use a small brush to set the eyeliner itself with an eyeshadow the same colour as your liner?

TreacleTits · 16/05/2021 17:11

Do you use an eye primer? This can help with the oils.

Using a different eyeliner technique can help for hooded eyes too. I recently saw one by one of the Welsh twins on Facebook.

Have you tried Mac Liquidlast www.maccosmetics.co.uk/product/13838/1250/products/makeup/eyes/eyeliner/liquidlast-24-hour-waterproof-liner#/shade/Point_Black ?
It's a bit pricey, but honestly, it's bombproof!

TreacleTits · 16/05/2021 17:16

^ omg the Mac stuff is actually amazing, I just started using this last month.

I had the same problem and this eye liner seems to work really well

I don't have hooded eyes but the lids are pretty droopy. I think it must be oiliness that's causing the problem. I don't wear much makeup and I've never been very good at applying it, which probably doesn't help!

I don't own any face powder to try that trick but will have a go with eyeshadow (which I don't often wear either) and see if applying it over a bit of a base helps.

Thanks for the replies!

Try mac liquidlast, it the best one out there, long as you let it dry , it doesn't move, I got a mini one from boots.

I think I've found a solution that doesn't involve spending any more money Grin

I had a Body Shop lip line fixer pencil in my makeup bag (no idea why as I don't wear lipstick). Used that first on my eyelids where I wanted the eye liner to go, and when I applied it stayed put!

I too found a solution to stop all eye pencil types from melting down my face, I use a eye shadow primer, just in a fine line first where you place the line of pencil, I use it under my eye lid then liner on top, haven't tried it with liquid liner as I use the mac one and it stays put on its own, I only use that one sometimes as I prefer a pencil type

This happens to me. Tried loads over the years. I mainly just tightline the waterline these days.

Kdubs1981 · 24/05/2021 19:42

You need a primer and powder first

SnottyLottie · 24/05/2021 19:55

I have the same problem! I have to powder my eyes before applying and then use a quick drying eyeliner so it doesn’t transfer. I really recommend Lancôme Artliner!
