Lose the expensive lotions! It's all about rosehip oil....

Ok, so I'm writing this as I just feel ALL women should know about it.

So I have sensitive skin that is prone to breakouts (it's taken me 34 years to realise face masks and scrubs are not my friend). I am also starting to get some lovely little wrinkles appearing :(

I tried rosehip oil on a whim last year having seen a luxury version online being hailed a miracle cure. I wasn't sure about putting oil on my face - again - prone to spots! It seems to go against all logic. But I used it anyway and found my skin started to actually glow. My wrinkles seemed less deep and I just looked less tired in general. Also.... no spots!

After 2 bottles (it goes a long way - literally 2ish drops for my entire face) I kinda just forgot to get any more and even when I remembered I didn't bother as it seemed like an expensive luxury.

Fast forward 6 months, my skin was back to looking tired and old (as I frequently complained to my partner) but I hadn't made the connection at all.

Then I found a bottle by accident in Wilko - £4.50. Definitely worth a shot so I got it. 1 week in and I'm not joking there's a real glow and I swear my skin feels softer, smoother and clearer.

I'll NEVER go back now. Genuine skin miracle. Anyone else tried it?

When do you use it, and how is it incorporated in your routine? Eg is it in place of moisturiser?

RufustheBadgeringReindeer · 14/05/2021 14:05

Funnily enough ive just bought some but ive been a bit worried about using it and my face reacting

But ill give it a go 😀

Ginsmything · 14/05/2021 14:10

Ooh I’ve got some that my daughter gifted me at Christmas from The Ordinary. Do you just use it instead of moisturiser @catmommy?

catmommy · 14/05/2021 14:18

@Ponks @Ginsmything Yeah, I simply wash my fash with a gentle foamy wash and gently massage a couple of drops around my eyes, lips and forehead (wrinkle areas!) and then any residue on my hands just massage into the rest of my face. I tend to use it at night mostly as it takes a short while to sink into your skin, but to be honest on days where I've wanted to forgo makeup, I've just applied a tiny bit in the morning for a bit of a dewy glow. I find I don't need moisturiser as well. When I wake up in the morning, my skin feels nice and soft and there's no greasiness.

@RufustheBadgeringReindeer You should try it, I can't promise it works on everyone but I was so pleased! :)

It didn't do anything for me I've discovered Kiels facial oil and I prefer that

1Hazel1 · 14/05/2021 14:32

How long did it take for you to notice a difference on wrinkles when you first started to use it OP?

catmommy · 14/05/2021 14:41

@BrownEyedGirl80 I guess it's not for everyone! :)

@1Hazel1 Fairly quickly to be fair, perhaps a couple of weeks? I mean they didn't vanish entirely, but were definitely minimised!

Yes!!! I tried it on a whim too and can't believe how much better my skin looks. Admittedly, my skin care regime is pretty non existent, just a bit of cleanser and moisturiser, but the oil instead of the moisturiser has been a revelation! I'm going to stick with it!

zizl · 14/05/2021 15:52

I tried it and didn't notice a difference unfortunately. £4.50 is a bargain though!

Gymsmile21 · 14/05/2021 15:55

I use just water in the shower then put on moisturiser and my skin cleared up! It’s got to be ditching everything and just washing with water??

doadeer · 14/05/2021 16:01

Crikey this wouldn't be enough for my skin I use serum, moisturiser and oil - but agree rosehip is lovely.

AOwlAOwlAOwl · 14/05/2021 16:02

Yes I bought some from the boots botanics range and I really like it, I'm on my second bottle now - it lasts ages. I can't say it's had a dramatic effect but my skin feels lovely and looks smoother, it's definitely helped reduce spots because I was starting to be plagued by them round my jawline. Not had any new ones of significance since. Recommend.

catmommy · 14/05/2021 16:05

@LetTheRiverAnswer Yeah, I'm a bit of a lazy routine kinda person and I'm also quite keen on nat having loads of different potions for different things. I like having as few ingredients/ chemicals as possible and also not spending a lot of money on them. This stuff is great for that :)

@zizl Everyone's skin is different I guess. I definitely thought it was worth another try for the price I found it!

@Gymsmile21 I do think simplicity is key. A lot of face washes etc have so many things in them and I think they can make your skin worse. I stick to Simple products for that reason. If water works on its own, you're very lucky! :)

it's good for people with sensitive and dry skin, rosehip oil. Also useful in tablet form for people with arthritic nodules on their fingers and toes (that look like, funnily enough, rosehips).

Serpenta · 14/05/2021 16:31

Rosehip oil also contains trans retinoic acid which is a very gentle relative of retinol.

APinchOfLOL · 14/05/2021 17:08

I also swear by it. I use Trilogy's Rosehip oil and buy it from Holland and Barrett. I've been using oils for ages and am a firm believer in them. I use a lot of oil on my hair and it is in very good condition.

I have a skincare brand that I use which is excellent but I have replaced one step with the Rosehip oil. I use it in between the toner and moisturiser and I use it as a serum. It is much better than any otherserum I have tried.

APinchOfLOL · 14/05/2021 17:09

Forgot to add that it does give me a really healthy glow that gets a lot of positive comments.

That's good to know. I've ordered some - thank you for the recommendation :)

Geamhradh · 14/05/2021 21:06

I use facial oils, and have done for years, but rosehip never did anything for me. My skin is dry and mature though, while rosehip is ideal for the first signs of ageing and oilier skins. (Hence it helping with breakouts)
As Caroline Hirons said, once you get past 40, no amount of rosehip is going to make much difference.
I always use an oil though at night. Neal's Yard ones are excellent and one of my repeat purchases is the Body Shop one.

sunglassesonthetable · 15/05/2021 08:23

Have to say I love Rosehip oil. It works for me too. And was like OP a turning point product.

I've tried the Ordinary one and the Neals Yard one . Working my way thru the Neals Yard as it was pricey but actually prefer the cheap Ordinary one which feels less oily. Effect is the same for me. A glow.

i have mature skin. ( Grin ) C Hirons is not right about everything.

1Hazel1 · 16/05/2021 16:01

I've bought a bottle, and have high hopes. If I'm 39.5 - would this C Hirons person recommend this for me or not, will it stop working in 6 months time? 😂

partyatthepalace · 16/05/2021 16:07

I think facial oils are generally good.

Superdrug vitamin E facial oil is not bad at all.

ElephantsNest · 16/05/2021 16:44

Most edible oils will do the same job in my experience, almond scented with rose oil is lovely

5128gap · 16/05/2021 17:17

Interesting as I couldn't get on with it at all, I found it quite dry, and particularly disliked the weird fishy smell. Ive gone back to olive oil which does for me what rosehip does for you. That said, I have very well behaved skin, never had spots, and just need to keep age related dryness at bay. The olive oil under moisturiser does this and gives a dewy looking effect too.
