Lose the expensive lotions! It's all about rosehip oil....

Ok, so I'm writing this as I just feel ALL women should know about it.

So I have sensitive skin that is prone to breakouts (it's taken me 34 years to realise face masks and scrubs are not my friend). I am also starting to get some lovely little wrinkles appearing :(

I tried rosehip oil on a whim last year having seen a luxury version online being hailed a miracle cure. I wasn't sure about putting oil on my face - again - prone to spots! It seems to go against all logic. But I used it anyway and found my skin started to actually glow. My wrinkles seemed less deep and I just looked less tired in general. Also.... no spots!

After 2 bottles (it goes a long way - literally 2ish drops for my entire face) I kinda just forgot to get any more and even when I remembered I didn't bother as it seemed like an expensive luxury.

Fast forward 6 months, my skin was back to looking tired and old (as I frequently complained to my partner) but I hadn't made the connection at all.

Then I found a bottle by accident in Wilko - £4.50. Definitely worth a shot so I got it. 1 week in and I'm not joking there's a real glow and I swear my skin feels softer, smoother and clearer.

I'll NEVER go back now. Genuine skin miracle. Anyone else tried it?

Thank you so much for making this thread Grin Rosehip oil has cleared up my skin and made it look amazing Smile

Fferny1 · 22/05/2021 09:43

I think it's brilliant stuff for my 50+ skin. Rosehip Oil seems to absorb quickly and doesn't leave skin oily. I like the Ordinary dropper bottle and it's cheap, so i literally slather it on down to my chest. I agree it doesn't smell too good, so I sometimes add a drop of pure Rose Oil.

CeibaTree · 23/05/2021 20:18

Thanks for the recommendation OP I bought a bottle a week ago based on your post. My skin has been so dry and tight feeling lately, and I've tried so many lotions and potions, but this is the only thing that has worked :) I'm 42 so I guess my skin is classed as mature but Caroline Hirons (I had to google her) clearly is talking rubbish saying it doesn't work over 40 as a pp mentioned - as my forehead wrinkles are looking much less pronounced now my skin isn't so dry:)

catmommy · 27/05/2021 11:58

@ElephantsNest Yes, I've used coconut oil before, but found it a little too greasy and heavy on my skin.

@CeibaTree That's such good news! I guess everyone's skin is different. I mean.... I don't use it expecting to go back in time to my 15 year old self.... if I did I would be VERY dissapointed! But I think if you have reasonable expectations, it can really give you a lift! Glad it helped! :)

@Fferny1 Yes I agree, the smell isn't the best - my husband says it makes me "smell like a hippie" hahaha. But I'm used to it now!

I had to resurrect this threat to say thanks for starting this thread @catmommy I've been using rosehip oil morning and night for a few months now and my skin looks like it did 5 years ago, which is no mean feat once you are in your 40s :) The fine lines on my forehead are gone and the deeper ones are less noticeable. Amazing stuff!

isthismylifenow · 28/09/2021 10:10

It was a bit of a disaster for me, as it broke me out in the most awful eczema.

I looked like a panda bear with stripes down the side of my face.

I wish it worked for me. But I will stick to the Body Shop one I use as it doesn't cause flare ups.

I have no idea what is in rosehip oil to have made me react so badly to it....

redferrari · 28/09/2021 10:42

It works great in winters for me but makes my skin oily and spotty in summer

Ahh that's a shame. I used it all of this summer, but my skin does tend to be quite dry at the best of times!

@isthismylifenow Oh no that doesn't sound good, which brand did you use? I wonder if there was something else in it. I use this one and it doesn't have any unwelcome additives.

Mariell · 28/09/2021 11:04

Rosehip oil on its own is awful for my skin and I’ve tried lots of different brands!

I’ve also tried many other oils but the one I like the best is Rose blend by Pixi.

I often add a couple of drops to foundation for a very dewy/glowy look.

Some people are really sensitive to it but my skin really suffers without it.

About a month ago I was really suffering with dehydrated skin, it was still oily so I was getting spots but it was so dehydrated that my skin was flaking off and it looked awful. My skin is literally glowing now.

catmommy · 28/09/2021 15:39

@CeibaTree I'm so glad it's helped! 😊

I guess it's not for everyone but that makes sense as all skin is different!

@CeibaTree I use Pai, it's expensive, will definitely try your recommendation next time. The £4.50 one also seems tempting. I really like it in colder months. Thanks!

Another cheapy is Aldi rose oil, very nice.

APurpleSquirrel · 29/09/2021 14:33

I use one by Sukin - it's fab. I use it in the morning & add some of it to my own homemade facial oil blend for nights. My forehead lines aren't as deep & ive not started getting fine lines yet & hope to keep them at bay.
I did find using it every day on my chest brought me out in spots so have switched to every other day & it's settled down.

CorrBlimeyGG · 29/09/2021 14:38

Aldi Rose oil is brilliant! Rosehip oil sets off my eczema, but the Aldi one which is a mix of all sorts, is nicely moisturising and gives a nice glow.

I'm stressed beyond belief at the moment, and Rose oil still makes me look half human each day.

ItsSunnyOutside · 29/09/2021 14:39

Yes! I mentioned The Ordinary one on another thread recently. I use 2 or 3 drops morning and night before I apply my moisturiser, I feel like it makes my skin more hydrated, for sure. I love the glow I get and it has evened out my skin tone. I don't really need to wear foundation anymore, just a little concealer.

ItsSunnyOutside · 29/09/2021 14:40

Ooo, meant to add, I'd be happy to try another brand so some of the suggestions on here are great!

BigButtons · 29/09/2021 14:44

I have only ever used food facial oils for years, never any moisturiser. For a while now I have been using locally freshly pressed flaxseed oil both on my toast and on my face! It works well and keeps it moisturised.

If you want to get really hippy about it, you can make your own from foraged rosehips (which you'll find everywhere in parks and on country walks this time of year). Roughly chop them up in a blender, add to almond/jojoba oil and gently heat in the oven/slow cooker/hob.

The base oils are super cheap, so you can make a year's supply for bugger all money!

Yes, doesn’t work for me

CamillaRose · 29/09/2021 17:32

I tried it until I read that unsaturated oils age you because they oxidise on the skin. Now I use squalane which is a saturated oil.
