Help me with a foundation

Hi ladies,

I spent nearly £40 on a foundation from IL makage. I was taken in by all the marketing Sad needless to say it was horrendous and I sent it back.

I have very dry skin but would like a velvety, good coverage foundation.
I have quite pale skin and just want some evening out.

I don't mind spending a lot if it's worth it especially if you don't need to use too much.

Any suggestions? Thank you 😊

I’m pale with dry skin too, I find Estée Lauder Double Wear the best... applied with a damp beauty blender so it’s not too heavy

Thanks @Snally82 ☺️

If you have dry skin you don't want a matte foundation, which double wear is.

However Estée Lauder do a dewy foundation version which is excellent

I got a few sample sachets of the Clarins skin illusion hydrating foundation off eBay to work out which shade I needed and I was really pleased with it. I don't have dry skin but I didn't want anything too cakey and this ticked the boxes for me.

A primer and then Fenty Pro Filt'r Foundation is a great combo and there's a shade for almost every skin tone, I usually struggle to find a good colour match but the second palest in the range is perfect for me.

And agree with PP, using a damp beauty blender to apply makes a real difference.

Aimee Connolly Second Skin has been a revelation for me, I absolutely LOVE it. Dewy, smoothing, great for pale skin... only thing is that it is medium coverage...not sure if you want full. I couldn’t recommend it enough though.

OP I also jumped on the IL Makiage hype but absolutely love it! I do however, have very oily skin..so maybe that's why we have differing reviews.

Before IL Makiage I used Lancôme teint idole for years which was always brilliant.

I previously tried two other foundations but due to my oily skin I didn't get on with them so gave them to DM who has dry skin and she loved them: NARS Sheer Glow and Charlotte Tilbury flawless filter - so either of those could be worth a go. DM said NARS was the best of the two

I have recently bought some RevolutionPro conceal and hydrate foundation and it is very good. And only 9 quid. Nice and juicy.

EastWestWhosBest · 14/05/2021 18:31

Oooh I keep being very tempted by Il Makiage.

Foundation just seems to fall off me.

PalacePalacePalace · 14/05/2021 18:35

I fell for the il makiage hype as well. Made my dry skin look awful.

Estee lauder double wear was great for years. But then I looked back at photos and just looked kinda ashy or dusty.

Now I'm using revlon colour stay. Great coverage, great colour match, feels nice on my skin, and significantly cheaper than il makiage and estee lauder.

Try space nk
Terry's is lovely and creamy and Laura mercier is also velvety and creamy....

Failing that try a really good cc/bb cream from misha

Trinny London fan here. Love her stuff.

I love Nars Sheer Glow, you can build it up for more coverage. I have dry skin & this is perfect
