Looking for a sense check from S&B. I keep getting adverts on FB (I don't care if it's shit I like it) from Roman Originals. Some stuff looks quite good. I think there is one at our local shopping outlet place. Are they Ok or should I just accept my mid 50's frump shoot myself

It may not be high fashion, Janlevinson but people can still dress stylishly with Romans' items.

MoiraQueen · 15/05/2021 11:41

It's a real mixture, but dresses and trousers are generally too short. I love the look of the wide leg pants, but there is only 29" leg, which is a no go, especially with heels. Some of the tops are nice, some are as pp put it "cruise wear".

RampantIvy · 15/05/2021 11:57

I suspect one of the secrets to Roman's survival is that it doesn't just target one niche market

You are right. They sell more stuff that I wouldn't wear than I would, and the quality of some clothes isn't great, but I love the gems I have found.

BradleyCooperwillbemine · 15/05/2021 13:48

I am mid fifties and having looked through their website, I would be hard pressed to find anything I would like to wear. It looks very Debenhams and I say this as someone who is happiest wearing a fleece and joggers, so hardly stylish.

RampantIvy · 15/05/2021 16:23

I have this jacket, which always gets me compliments, this skirt, these cropped trousers, a black skirt and a black dress.

The cropped trousers I have are a little longer than the ones on the website (and look nicer).

Oh that's disappointing I'm 5'9" 😫 it's meant to be raining tomorrow so might have a look. Nothing to lose

I'm 5'10. I liked these flowy wide leg trousers, though they look nicer on the video. But I'd be showing more than a little ankle in my heelsSad

I love that jacket, @RampantIvy , though I'd walk straight past it on the hanger.

The cropped trousers, are they as slim fitting as they look? I have chunky legs so have been avoiding them.

Sorry but I have to disagree with you on this one
RampantIvy · 15/05/2021 21:49

Most of the bits I have I bought at Boundary Mills, and they aren't on the website.

I have to disagree with you janlevision. Most of their range is not for me, but there are some pieces that do look stylish. Perhaps you could show some examples of what you consider stylish.

Yes, the cropped trousers are slim fitting @picklemewalnuts.

MoiraQueen · 16/05/2021 10:34

Janlevision I don't have the budget for high fashion, or the lifestyle to need it. Although I wouldn't buy most of the things on Roman's site, there are odd bits and pieces that I like.

MoiraQueen · 16/05/2021 10:35

Would also be interested to see your style, Jan?

VanillaAndOrange · 16/05/2021 12:28

I see a lot of stuff in there that I like at first sight, but they use a lot of man-made fabrics, some of which look a bit shiny and unattractive close up. I have one knitted dress from there that is one of my favourite winter dresses.

RampantIvy · 16/05/2021 13:44

I agree VanillaAndOrange

I saw a few things I liked the look of on their website, but decided to wait until the shops opened, and I'm glad I did as the quality was very poor.

Absolutely zero point in me doing this as we clearly have extremely different ideas of what is stylish 🙂
RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 16/05/2021 19:36

Well, I've just looked at the website inspired by this thread, and have to say I couldn't see a single thing I'd contemplate wearing. I know a couple of people who shop there (my age) but it's not for me. Too many unnatural fibres and too little black for my liking.

I didn't say we did, but it's always interesting to see things from another viewpoint.

After a long search, I've found one thing that I like.

You will now have the ads popping up on all websites 😂

Sorry I meant to reply to RampantIvy

Jan Grin

MoiraQueen · 16/05/2021 21:15

Who'd have though Roman Originals would be so contentiousGrin. I'm not too keen on the dress in the post upthread, but targeted ads are ensuring I will look at it for the foreseeable! (Yes, I know how to get rid of them)
