Another wedding guest plea...

Normally I would throw myself on the mercies of a JL personal shopper, but might not be able to arrange it in time.
I'm 48, 5'9, size 10 lower half, 12 upper, 32F bra, 32 in leg, what could be referred to as a solid athletic build - no waist, muscular arm, good legs, bubble bum.
White hair, green eyes, pale skin - so no pastels or pale colours, I look best in strong colours

I look appalling in floaty dresses, hate cropped jackets on me, nothing belted (it always hits the wrong place), and need something fairly formal and smart.
No 50's dresses please, and I do need a jacket or sleeves as it looks like the ceremony involves the guests being seated outside and I'll either burn or freeze

Help me! I'm open to anything tbh, but left to my own devices it will be very safe and more like my formal workwear wardrobe

Ted Baker? 30% off.

With a jacket or cover-up of some kind.

I feel like this would really suit your figure and look lovely with your white hair. Maybe with a black or navy blazer.

I really like @LuckyMcDucky‘s suggestion actually

Jacket might be tricky if no cropped or belted. I do struggle to match jackets to dresses! Maybe even a light coat would work...or something knitted but not too casual?

I bought similar (& am also similar build to you, same age but 6’ & 34gg with 34” legs & ever changing colour hair to cover the grey!). On the model it looks far more ‘tits & legs’ than it does IRL - I just added a couple of stitches to make it far less booby (or a vest or camisole would also work) & also stitched the split so no flashing involved & wore industrial Spanx so it was a smooth fit. It’s surprisingly flattering & being stretchy accommodates curves.

(oh and removed the shoulder pads too - I’m old enough to remember them from last time around and have plenty of my own - it improved the line of the dress too..)

chipsandgin · 12/05/2021 12:47

*plenty of shoulder not shoulder pads 🙄!!!

ASOS tall range of occasion dresses worth a look as even with waist detail etc it’s actually then in the right place and not up under your boobs! I’ve also found Next tall, Boden tall, Phase Eight and even frumpy old Long Tall Sally come up with good occasion dresses for taller women (have to sift though some shockers though to find them!)...

I love the Ted Baker dress @LuckyMcDucky chose, and I do have a gold jaquard coat dress that might work over it for outside.

The Cos one is pretty and I love the colour, but that high neck at the front wouldn't work for me.

I might order the ASOS one, for that price its worth seeing if it can be toned down, and the high/low hem is really nice.

The one from Matches is very striking, but the shaped bustline would be in the wrong place (bitter experience). I do have a dress pattern almost exactly the same though, so the overall shape is perfect - the pattern needed a lot of tweaking to get it to sit right at bust and waist iirc. Must dig it out actually

The Asos one looks very nice too! Think gold would look great with it.
