Dyson Airwrap 😍 Wow! Actually don't feel ripped off!

Hi,

Actually, I should say DP doesn't feel ripped off, as they bought me one for my birthday.

Tbh, I was expecting to like it, but not love it, but after using it for the first time today, I have to say, it's bloody marvelous! Grin

I have long, naturally wavy/frizzy, slightly bleached damaged, medium to thick hair and I decided to use the round volumising brush and after a bit of a shaky start, my hair started to look all shiny, bouncy and swishy.

I've never been able to create a blow out professional style with a round brush and hairdryer, but this really is something special and J honestly do feel like I've been to the hairdressers.

Just thought I'd share Smile Does anyone else have one? How do you feel about it?

Your hair looks wonderful! I've been thinking about getting one of these, but my hair is so long and thick I wondered if it would actually work. I find it hard to manage with a regular curling want and even a regular blow dryer. I just kind of imagined my hair flying everywhere because I've watched demos of it and some people looked like they struggled to get their hair wrapped around it.

I think my hair would be a similar length to yours. How did you find getting used to it and it actually picking up the hair to wrap? How long did it take you to do your whole head? Just a blow dry on mine takes the best part of 25 minutes, and I sometimes need to take a break half way through because my arms get tired and I get too hot 🤦🏼‍♀️

GoblinQueen2 · 11/05/2021 14:25

@WineGetsMeThroughIt, thank you Smile

I think you actually can get a long version, but not 100%. The round brush that I used doesn't really do the wrapping like the curling attachments. You basically just used it like like you would a round brush, accept you don't need a hairdryer.

I blast dried it first with the drying head (weird looking thing) which took about 3 or 4 minutes, concentrating towards the top of my hair, as it's hard to get the brush that high. I was worried I'd dried it too much actually, but even on only slightly damp, already starting to frizz and curl hair, it smoothed it out really well, whilst giving it a bit of volume and loads of shine. Honestly, I don't work for Dyson! Grin

I sectioned it out into maybe 12 sections overall and I'd say it took about 15 minutes to dry and that was with a bit of cautious stopping and starting.

As I say, I haven't used the other attachments yet, so may have already peaked, but tbh even if I don't get on with the others, I'm still very impressed.

Oh, actually, one negative is that it does leave your hair feeling rather hot, so I'm not sure if the claims about it being less damaging are completely true.

I had it on full heat to start with, but then dropped to medium. The result wasn't quite as good, but still pretty impressive. I'd say you'd still need to use heat protector, especially if you stay on the highest setting.

Any more Airwrap lovers? Surely I can't be the only one Confused

I've got the dyson hairdryer and I love it! Really tempted by the airwrap!!

IloveJudgeJudy · 12/05/2021 10:27

I have a Dyson hairdryer and I love it. I really wanted to love the Airwrap, too, but I found it wrecked my hair. I really rated the smoothing brush but the barrels wrecked my hair as they catch the ends first so they're nearer the heat source. The curls didn't stay in, either. (I've since had my hair curled at a hairdresser with straighteners and she said my hair doesn't hold a curl well at all. This has been confirmed by DD who also tried to curl my hair with straighteners.)

GoblinQueen2 · 12/05/2021 10:29

@flossletsfloss, it's bloody expensive, but I would say it's worth it if, for example, you go to the hairdresser just for a blow dry for a special occasion. If you have the hairdryer, can you just buy the attachments? Not sure if that's possible, just wondered.

My hair doesn't look quite so swishy this morning, but still nice and still better than when I was using my Parlux hairdryer, which was good for smoothing, but I always felt it left my hair a bit flat.

I have the hairdryer, airwrap and straightener. Love them all.

Lightningrain · 12/05/2021 10:31

I love mine for drying but I can’t get curls in my hair. It’s quite fine and any curls I do manage to create just fall out within a couple of hours.

GoblinQueen2 · 12/05/2021 10:33

@IloveJudgeJudy, that's a shame. Did you try the medium setting? I was surprised how hot my hair got on the high setting, as I thought one of the USPs was less heat damage.

Are you doing the cool shot after each section OP? I have the airwrap and love it.

@WineGetsMeThroughIt - I have long thick hair (think Crystal Tipps 😬). It works well.

lalamo · 12/05/2021 10:37

I've got an air wrap! I absolutely love it too. I'm a year in and can confirm my hair is much better condition than it used to be and not at all fried.

Queenoftheashes · 12/05/2021 10:38

I have the airwrap long - love it. My hair has never looked so good.

absolutelyknackeredcow · 12/05/2021 11:13

I also have the Dyson hairdryer - I can't believe it but it is worth it. I can get a salon blow dry at home and I'm not that great at hair

GoblinQueen2 · 12/05/2021 11:48

@Shmithecat2, well I haven't used the curling barrels yet, so haven't used the cool shot button. I don't think you use it with the other attachments, do you?..

@Queenoftheashes, I'm wondering if I need to exchange for a long version actually. Used it on my dds mid length hair earlier and it only just managed it. Are they more expensive?

Op are you Kate Middleton?
Sorry if I outed you!!

torquewench · 12/05/2021 11:53

Love my Dyson hairdryer, but I thought the Airwrap was a massive faff and it also made my hair feel very dry. It also made my hair look untidy compared to my other much cheaper tools. The waves from the barrels dropped within half an hour. I get far better results with standard big barrel tongs. Im dithering over buying a GHD Glide at the moment though so does anyone want to share a review of those?

Katrinawaves · 12/05/2021 12:09

I love my air wrap too. I had long hair up until 2 weeks ago when I went for a short crop and it isn’t as good for shorter hair though.

Queenoftheashes · 12/05/2021 12:11

I’m not sure if it’s more expensive - it was £449. But I had to wait months for it to be in stock.
Worth it I felt if you have a lot of hair.

GoblinQueen2 · 12/05/2021 12:27

@Aprilwasverywet 🤫 😉

Haha funnily enough, my mum says I'm the spit. Not sure where she's looking (other than the hair!) I bloody wish though!
