Which shoes with long skirts?

ToooOldForThis · 11/05/2021 07:42

In anticipation of finally maybe (eg) meeting friends for a drink,I bought a couple of long skirts, pleated, that I imagined looking good - casual but still night out like - with a decent t-shirt and some trainers. Kind of like an update to my old staple of black jeans and a nice top!
However they just don't look quite right! They look good with tights and ankle boots but it's not at all summery looking then. Any suggestions for styling? I also have a decent dark blue denim jacket and black leather biker which I also thought would go.
Thank you!

Sandals?

thedevilinablackdress · 11/05/2021 07:50

What shoes do you have? Try them all on.
I'd wear brogues, converse type trainers, regular trainers if walking a lot, sandals if very warm.

LuckyMcDucky · 11/05/2021 07:55

I would've thought trainers, but if not, then maybe flat, chunky sandals. I hear ballet flats are back too.

Nothing too 'pretty'. If you wear a long skirt and want it to look up to date you need a sort of 'edgier' shoe so it doesn't look frumpy. Nothing flimsy or pretty. Maybe wedges, trainers, tan suede ankle boots (tightless), anything with studs on, a shoe boot could work. Peep toe shoe boot even? Or a wild pop or colour could work.

My feet are so grim I was resisting sandalsGrin but i fear you might be right
Have chunky metallic birkies?

Depends on the trainers? So converse, gola, new balance all look great with skirts.

  • if you have lots of money golden goose trainers work well as they are a scruffy look so take the edge off the neat skirt.

I don't suit pleated as I'm short so tend to grab casual straight skits it t-shirt dresses and then pop a jumper or jacket over them.

Definitely converse or Nike blazers.

thedevilinablackdress · 11/05/2021 08:27

I'd wear the Birkies with some lovely socks

LuckyMcDucky · 11/05/2021 09:51

Yeah, birkies sound great

Perhaps some clogs? They seem to have hovered on the fringes of fashion for a few years now, I am wondering whether they are going to become a bigger thing with the 70s fashions becoming increasingly visible? They meet a lot of the current shoe criteria: chunky soles, a bit "ugly" and make a dressy outfit more casual.

I am regularly tempted by these:

But the high classics also look great

Russel & Bromley do some chunky sandals called Portland Fishermen's sandals which look good with long skirts. I got some fearing they'd make my massive feet look even bigger but they don't and cover a lot of your feet if they're not buffed to an inch of their life.

allofthecheese · 11/05/2021 12:22

I wear Majorcan sandals when I want my feet out but not too much as I hate feet lol. I also wear my pleated skirts with converse or other trainers and think they look cool.

ToooOldForThis · 11/05/2021 15:16

Thank you all! Have just also thought, I have pink high top converse, they might be OK? For trainers - white?? Never need an excuse to trainer shop!
I'm in Scotland and it's bloody freezing most of the time, which is the other reason I think I veer away from the sandals!

I wore a long skirt today with Nike Blazers, my feet were a bit hot.

LuckyMcDucky · 11/05/2021 15:48

Yeah, I like the sound of the converse too Smile

rosiedeus · 11/05/2021 15:48

I'm tempted to get some Vera Broncos, they look nice, airy and comfortable. I have other Vera trainers so these will add to my collection

Cookies2523 · 11/05/2021 15:51

White trainers or self coloured wedges will look nice.

rosiedeus · 11/05/2021 15:52

I like the green ones

rosiedeus · 11/05/2021 15:53

Veja not Vera
