Hi guys, I have a friend's 30th birthday afternoon tea at Sketch in London at the end of the month. It has a smart/casual kind of vibe, so I've bought the dress above in orange and plan to wear it with a light coloured denim jacket.

However, I have no idea what to wear on the bottom half! I was thinking some chunky boots, but my sister reckons sandals. I'm worried that sandals might not hold up in bad weather! Clear tights or black tights? Satchel or handbag? Argh!

Some last minute advice/links would be truly, madly appreciated!!

Thank you!

I can't do links but if you search for "cream blazer with ruched sleeves" you get a lot of options coming up.

Good god this thread is where style has come to die
Those boots 🙈

It’s a versatile dress can dress up down, for the weather etc.

For the denim jacket, skin coloured tights that give your legs that airbrushed look and chunky white trainers with a white/brown bag (messenger, cross body, slouch tote etc) they would all go, for a casual festival vibe probs cross body. If you want a bit of height brown shoes/boots.

For black tights, suppose it depends on the weather. I’d team it with heeled shoe boots to lengthen the leg, shoe boots are great for bad weather but don’t cut your leg off above the ankle, they can be quite flattering. Maybe a black leather jacket and black handbag, boring but safe, you can mix it up with jewellery.

Agree with pp about a cream blazer and the boots haha, although Dr M’s have made a huge come back, sadly they wouldn’t do anything for me. You will look lovely whatever you decide, report back to us what you decide!

Omg what the hell are the shoe suggestions on here I'm assuming the OP is young and not 99!! Jesus Christ! Please don't order them boots OP x

oober · 13/05/2021 18:59

it depends what kind of person you are....

  1. clumpy soled fisherman sandals, maybe in tan/cream? And a long V knit 'granny' cardigan, in tan/cream?

  2. cream waterfall type linen jacket/cardi, with a a cream flat-form type trainer... ?

  3. tan suede biker jacket and tan cowboy boots?

  4. cream trench-coat and cream hiker boots?

  5. tan fringed 'western style jacket, slouchy tan suede low heeled mid-calf/knee boots?

No tights its a summer dress.
Just wear the dress. No jacket. Defo no satchel. Your out out not going to school.
Your 30 not 13. Dont worry what people think @Dresssos

Hilarious thread. Those boots are for clomping the hills are the daily drudge of the school run in the driving rain. Not sketch in late May. Some great tips other then those (although they do look seriously comfy if you suffer from corns and bunions).

Mikki77 · 14/05/2021 09:26

I'm 5,1 - so no chunky boots. We shorties can only get away with wearing them with trousers. Stick to nude court shoes or some 'duchess of Cambridge' style wedges. Have a lovely time Smile

I think (weather permitting any W white jacket , a pair of kitten heel ankle boots in white with a big beige basket weave bag 👍👍👍

pearlchoker · 23/05/2021 22:40

I would.look for a white Shacket, lots around at the mo and you'll get lots of wear out of it paired with other stuff. I would.also wear some white chunky flatform sandals. Forget tights, just slap on some fake tan the night before. You will be comfy, smart caz, a tad edgy and summery.

JorisBonson · 23/05/2021 22:44

Damn you OP, that's a new site for me to spend money on 🤣

I'd go chunky boots and I'd add a chunky belt.

Jzpap · 24/05/2021 08:42

Sweet dress. Orange goes with every colour so don’t worry about that.
Not sure about the denim jacket, I like the idea of the M&S jacket in cream/white.
The biggest problem you have is the inclement weather. I actually like the Fly boots but may not work on the day. As you say trainers wouldn’t be right. The Boden sandals are lovely but you might freeze 🥶

Ritpetit · 24/05/2021 11:54

Boden tan saddles, nice necklace(s) classy earings, cross body small neat bag. How about a neutral short waistcoat in linen if you want to break up your body shape. I guess you will be driven or taxi there so no worries about weather. Please no boots shortens your small frame. Legs make sure you exfoliate, moisturise, and check you have done a great job, dont stop at your knees, as you move all will be revealed.... I know you only asked about the dress but we/I get carried away. PS have nails and toes done to finish the look. Smile, have fun. I know you are grown up and not 13. Sorry.
