Dress me for New York

I’ve got 6 nights booked in New York in October. If we can’t go this October we will go in April next year instead.

I know it’s very casual so likely jeans and comfy trainers but I’d still like to look smart for photos, dinner, roof top bars and not wear the usual of a puffa mountain warehouse type jacket.

It could be cold. It could be warm. Is there such a thing as a jacket within a jacket that’s smart. You know the type that you can take the inner out if it’s warm but not that warm so you still need a light weight jacket for if it rains?

I’ve got a leather biker so could do a hoody with a biker and a scarf. I’ve got Stan Smiths that are comfy and ankle grazer jeans. Just wonder if you can suggest anything else or if anyone has been how causal it actually is?

October will still be warm (t-shirt weather usually) but April could be snow or it could be sundresses and factor 50) I like those packable puffy jackets from Uniqlo, they are warm and waterproof, but they fit in a bag if too hot.

And it's as casual as the venue you're at. For sightseeing and touristy stuff it's very casual but if you're going to fancy restaurants and bars you'll want to dress up.

I second the uniqlo puffer to wear under another coat or jacket if it gets cold. That's usually what I do for the late autumn and winter in NY

Thanks. My puffa jacket it my dog walking jacket so I was going to find something smarter and may be waterproof.

Uniqlo do a sleeveless thin padded jacket for layering. I have a very cool quilted jacket from Cos which is reversible ( black / navy ) but I think it’s sold out. I would take that, layer with my olive green Uniqlo and a waterproof if necessary on top. I really love Rains and I notice they’ve done padded & transitional coats as well as lightweight waterproof coats. ( very stylish Scandi company ). Hopefully your biker would work with with those layers too. I did read earlier in the year that Cos had done a padded coat that had a zip on / off layer to make it into a jacket but I never saw it in the flesh so I’m not sure if I’d have utilised it but the idea seemed good.

I made a big mistake, huge, and worried something too sexy/short during the day. It was a denim mini with black tights and knee high boots and abig coat over the top.
This was a few years ago.
The cat calls and harassment were awful, and I was with my boyfriend.
So yes its casual, but not too edgy either I would recommend.
