Levi jeans

Hey, so I’m second guessing myself a bit in relation to buying some new jeans, after a sideways look from my snarky teen when they saw me browsing levisHmm

As a kid and teen in 80s and 90s I wore nothing but levis, as did everyone else I remember and I THINK they were reasonably “cool” then, at least not uncool. I stopped wearing levis 25 years ago, just abruptly went off them. Lately though I’ve really started to like them again, when I see them on people in the street etc, and the colours as well I like - seem to be a better/nicer spectrum than other brands.

Anyway, I know I should dress for myself, and not worry about others’ opinions, yada yada, but just curious about any thoughts on levis these days, are they naff, cool, neutral, oldskool, etc? Thanks!

I have several pairs. Some are vintage.

Check the depth of the front pockets, they are not always very deep.

The Curve ones IMO aren't as good as the regular ones.

ZaraW · 08/05/2021 05:38

Just buy them. I wouldn't be getting fashion advice from a teenager.

SarahBellam · 08/05/2021 05:49

My DP has worn Levi 501s for 35 years. He could not give two figs what anyone else thinks. The look great on him.

Monty27 · 08/05/2021 06:00

I was disappointed when they changed women's 501s to curves.
They just weren't the same so I'd be interested to hear what's the current best cut.

I'm pear shaped and wear 714s.

I hardly wear any except Levi’s and people often comment on how nice my jeans are. My DP also nearly always wears 501s (although men’s 501s are totally different to mine). They’re on the expensive side, but worth it I think. For me at least as I live in them for years.

WeWantAMackerelNotASprat · 08/05/2021 06:38

I bought some Levi jeans when I went to New York. They look so much nicer than my cheaper jeans and fit well too

fabricstash · 08/05/2021 06:41

I usually only wear dark blue Levi’s at work but I went last week to the shop and the only dark denim they had was thin stretch material or cropped ( neither suitable fir work). Why can’t we have normal jeans like the men!! And don’t start me on the pockets!! I don’t want to buy jeans online I want to try them on. Sadly I shall no longer be shopping there.

cakefanatic · 08/05/2021 06:51

I wore Levi’s almost exclusively until I had kids. I still have my beloved favourite pair in the vain hope I might fit them again. I always wore 529s in a 28/30, but looking at their fit guide I probably want a 712 or a 714 now. Expensive jeans that wash and wear well. A timeless classic.

EllaPaella · 08/05/2021 08:26

I love Levi's and have a couple of pairs. They do so many different styles, I have a straight leg high waist cropped pair and a pair of boyfriend jeans. Both have lasted very well, great quality denim.

PoTheDog · 08/05/2021 10:10

Love Levis! Love that I can go into the shop, try on a million in one go and get sorted.

I have a handful of styles that I know suit me and love the ease of that. I also like that they do different cuts regularly and different colour/material combos (cords/stretch denim/raw denim etc)

Spuriously17windows · 08/05/2021 10:15

Thanks for the reply all, feel suitably encouraged to pull the trigger (and tell snarky teen to piss off on first wear)Smile

Levi’s were the only jeans a self respecting teenager would wear when I was a teenager (80s), but the jeans market wasn’t as huge as it is now. The last decade or so my jeans have been bought from supermarkets or Next with outdoor /child wrangling lifestyle in mind. I seem to have picked up on a lot of Levi’s advertising recently, and am thinking of treating myself, but really remember struggling for size last time I tried any (in New York, 10 years ago).

AuntieMarys · 08/05/2021 10:16

I have half a dozen.pairs of 712s. Years old.

huuuuunnnndderrricks · 08/05/2021 10:27

You can get them on Amazon much cheaper on try before you buy and also next sell them . The Levi's shops are full price IME!

AdoraBell · 08/05/2021 10:33

I also use 714s as I’m pear shaped. Having tried many brands over the decades I’ve gone back to Levis.

My teen DD made a snarky comment once, something like - I would never wear that. I replied, you do you, boo.

Exactly this!
raffegiraffe · 08/05/2021 21:54

If you have Amazon prime you could try prime wardrobe. You have a week after all the order arrived. They have Levi's. I bought cropped 501s and the denim is so much thicker than all my other jeans. Really easy returns no need to print label as it comes with return label

Livinthedream84 · 09/05/2021 09:31

I’m sat in a pair of Levi’s now. They are super comfy and look fab. My teenager wouldn’t be seen in them but she hasn’t commented on mine. I don’t take fashion advice from someone 26 years younger than me hahaGrin

Twatterati · 09/05/2021 13:05

I also wore them in the 80s/90s - happy, happy days! They always looked so cool!

Went back to them last year when lockdown weight meant my thighs felt too chunky for my other jeans! Absolutely LOVE them again, have several pairs on the go (and pick them up on EBay for about £20).

Go for it!

ducktape · 09/05/2021 15:09

I wore levi's all through my teens (in the 90s), bought some for the dcs at Christmas and they are SO much better quality and fit than the generic jeans they had been wearing (e.g. dunnes, primark, sainsburys). Not that much dearer either from discounted online stores (£19). Planning to get some for myself as I have worn next jeans since having the dc and they are decent enough but a year's wear and they are done

DublinDoris2000 · 10/05/2021 18:45

I love levis 312 (shaping slim) I'm apple shaped and have trouble finding things that fit my bum and waist at same time. Loads of stretch, slim but not skinny, mid to higher rise, great pockets. I also have some cropped 501s which are very cool but not as comfy. I'm a small 14 and get a size 32.
