Please help me find an outfit for DD's wedding

Please help. I am struggling to find a dress I like which is suitable for MOB. Everything I find is either too white, too black, not 'special' enough or out of stock.

In my previous thread I was advised to give my requirements and ask for help so here it it.

Early October wedding but all indoors in one venue. Lovely garden for photos if the weather is suitable.
DD is in traditional white dress but elegant rather than princess style. Bridesmaids are in silver grey so not too restricted on colour.
I don't want a traditional MOB pastel outfit with a hat although I could manage a fascinator.
I am 52 , 5'4" and will hopefully lose lockdown weight and be back to about 9 st so usually a size 8.
I am pear shape so small up top but wiith chunky thighs and hips.

I do like body con dresses but am trying to avoid them as I think they can be uncomfortable for an all day event. Not keen on asymmetric hems or very high/low necks.
Budget is not restricted but I do t want to spend too much on something I probably won't wear again. Trying to keep total for my outfit/hair/make up/shoes/bag etc under £500 if I can so was thinking max £250 for a dress.

Bombshell have some stunning dresses - over budget, but might inspire? Some beautiful Fifties style designs.

Shibumi have some very beautiful coats and dresses - not cheap, but with careful accessorising you could possibly get away with cheaper shoes and fascinator?

A stylish MOB I know wore a Shibumi embroidered coat with narrow, tapered silk trousers and hair accessory - she looked amazing.

@mrssmiling Ooo, love the bombshell dresses!

This one is lovely, gorgeous colour for an Autumn wedding, and long-sleeved, so wouldn't need a cover up.

Nancy Mac might be worth a look too...slightly retro look....some gorgeous designs.

@goose1964 I like that Hobbs dress but not sure it's what I'm looking for. I love some of the bombshell and Nancy Mac dresses. I usually keep going back to the same places I have bought from before but am using this as an opportunity to cast the net a bit wider.

This, if you really want to dress up. Could be amazing under a very plain and simple velvet coat.

MayIDestroyYou · 06/05/2021 14:12

Definitely body-con. But a bargain, if your sort of thing.

MayIDestroyYou · 06/05/2021 14:23

Traditional looking, but rather grand! The lovely wool fabric, and the colour, would make it very suitable for an Autumn wedding.

Helen McAlinden might be worth a look - very elegant, with interesting detail. She has her own website but is at John Lewis. Examples...

One more for luck - Blow your budget. Bargain. Sort of forever-frock, so a good investment. Only needs one, tiny, heirloom jewel. Will look fabulous in photos. (Be quick! Only the size 8 left!)

That Emilia Wickstead dress is gorgeous.
Just one more suggestion - was trying to remember a designer who makes elegant dresses and jackets in the style of fashion icons like Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly, Jackie O etc. It’s Suzy Hamilton.

Wow some fantastic suggestions here thank you so much. I love the Helen McAlinden dresses @mrssmiling. Also love the Emilia Wickstead Dress @MayIDestroyYou but not sure it's what I'm looking for- certainly something to think about.

Let us know what you finally choose, and hope you have a wonderful family day! 😀

D'you want some more suggestions? I have time ... Deadline avoidance

Mumski45 · 07/05/2021 17:09

@MayIDestroyYou I am always open to more suggestions. I think my favourites at the moment are the Helen McAlinder range. They are at top end of my budget though so I am still looking. Tempted to order a few online from John Lewis just to try on and see quality and fit on me.

Some one asked me to post what I eventually decided on so nearly 2 months later so here it is. After much procrastination and having bought and returned 2 other outfits I have decided on this dress which I have found significantly reduced on eBay. It arrived today and I love it. I have found a hat similar to the one in the photo on Vinted and also some blingy shoes. Now moving onto sorting out DH and 2 teenage boys who are a bit reluctant to dress up but at least I am sorted.
