Help me to splash this cash

I’ve just found out I’m getting an unexpected bonus from work. Post tax probably around £1.2k.

I’ve had a tough year - bereavement, young child diagnosed with life changing health problems. I’m back to work from mat leave soon and want to spend a bit of money on myself to help me feel ready to face the world again.

I’m fairly low maintenance but like to look tidy (think Boybrow but no mascara??). Size 10. Mid thirties. Clothes shops of choice would be Cos, the Fold, Whistles, Margaret Howell. I have the things I actually need - this is treat stuff.

Have you any ideas to help me get my sparkle back?! I’ve so far come up with... teeth whitening.

(I’m also lucky enough to be in a position where my child can be more than supported financially. I’m not worried about that. I’m less good at spending on me)

Ooh exciting
The obvious answers are handbag and special Jewellery
Classic black louboutins?

Something/anything anything from a shop you’d be otherwise too scared to go into
Don’t judge me but I love mine... an eufy

Pfiffle · 05/05/2021 18:13

Grin I love the eufy idea. Sadly it wouldn’t work in my house (there are a lot of random stairs). No judgement. I love my cordless Dyson like a family member.

I did consider a Wandler handbag...

Perhaps a spa day to rest and recharge?

DonLewis · 05/05/2021 18:18

Botox!

something2say · 05/05/2021 18:19

Why not have a really great haircut and buy a lovely bag. Although I must admit I might buy a diamond ring...or single stone necklace?

Pfiffle · 05/05/2021 18:22

@DonLewis toying with this. Seems very frivolous. Which is entirely the point.

Botox for dummies - how long does it last?

I would buy a handbag, something classic.

Or maybe a nice watch?

I would prefer to spend it on something more long term like that, than clothes! Enjoy it!

DonLewis · 05/05/2021 18:29

Quite a few of my friends have it and they look great for it.

I don't, but I'd prefer lip filler anyway.

Ninkanink · 05/05/2021 18:31

Handbag handbag!!

Or maybe jewellery. From Georg Jensen (my favourite).

Or a fantastic pair of boots.

Ninkanink · 05/05/2021 18:32

Ohhh a watch is good too.

Pfiffle · 05/05/2021 18:33

@PrimeraVez I think you’re right. I either want something I can keep forever that signifies I got through the toughest year of my life and came out fighting (sorry to be v cheesy) OR some tweakment type things that’ll make me feel shit hot and on top of things when I go back to work, and not like I’ve spent 6 months taking my baby to endless hospital appointments!

Actually, forget what I said before, buy this: www.wolfandbadger.com/uk/wide-leg-sequin-palazzo-jumpsuit-silver/ and an Ooni pizza oven and host fabulous parties

Pfiffle · 05/05/2021 18:40

@Procrastatron hold the phone.

Maybe splashing it on a fuck off massive party for the wonderful friends who’ve put up with a lot of teary phone calls this year is an idea... While wearing sequins.

God you guys are good.

Ireolu · 05/05/2021 22:51

A nice coat. Something classic from Burberry maybe...

ShangPie · 06/05/2021 04:43

YY to party, maybe rethink the sequin kaftan? I am partial to some OTT dressing but that is a bit too post-marathon-blanket for £300

How about splitting it:
£400 party
£400 botox and general sprucing up
£400 something nice but not so extravagant that you’re afraid to use it / be devastated when it gets destroyed by a rampaging toddler (bag, watch, jewellery)

I find splurging on jewellery is the best retail therapy, you can get a lot of personalised pieces from most places. I have just been suggested Edge of Ember in another thread for my sister's gift and they look like a very sweet brand.

Alt. a handbag!!!
