Is this too white for a wedding guest?

After seeing discussion on this on another thread I'm worried this dress I've bought is now too 'white'- I thought the floral pattern made it ok, but maybe not... What do you think?

@Sanchez79

This Mumsnet obsession with outfits being 'too bridal' is a peculiarly middle class thing. Working and upper class people are less troubled by this kind of weird codified behaviour and just wear what they want secure in the knowledge that the bride will be having far too much fun to give a stuff what her guests are wearing.
Yep. It's very provincial middle class.

It's not actually a rule in high society - the only consideration is not to look like you're the bride. So not white satin or lace.

A flowery dress with a white background is fine.

Lollypop4 · 04/05/2021 22:41

100% don't wear it!

PyongyangKipperbang · 04/05/2021 22:41

I missed the bit about the pale pink accessories.

That is exactly the kind of look she might choose for her bridesmaids....so you risk looking like a BM. I wouldnt want to take that risk personally, but as you have decided that how you look is more important the the bride feels....crack on.

Jojoanna · 04/05/2021 22:43

It does look a bit BM , I’m not keen on the dress I don’t like the neckline and it’s very flouncy

happytobemrsg · 04/05/2021 22:44

Beautiful dress but unfortunately I’d say it was too huge for a wedding. Would totally still buy it & wear it for something else though!

AnnieSnap · 04/05/2021 22:49

I think it’s lovely and as long as the bride is wearing all white, it’s fine for a wedding 🙂

Eviethyme · 04/05/2021 22:51

I wouldn't kind someone wearing it to my wedding but I would never wear to a wedding. Looks like bridal to me

And also this!!!
LynetteScavo · 04/05/2021 22:53

It's fine, there's nothing bridal about it- unless it's a very low key 1970s style wedding in the woods.

If it's an average 2021 style
wedding it's totally appropriate.

Nah mate. I’m as working class as they get, born and raised on a north eastern council estate. Most of us just know this is a dick move so don’t talk about it. And if you did show up at a geordie wedding in white you wouldn’t be leaving in white I know that.

Woodlandbelle · 04/05/2021 22:55

I love it. I wouldnt bat an eyelid at a guest wearing that or think it bridal. Mind you at my wedding I couldnt be mistaken for the bride Grin I went all out.

CrisisManagement · 04/05/2021 22:56

Too white. Don't be selfish. Just pick another dress.

And to those saying she won't look like the bride, how do you know? Not all brides wear satin and taffeta. The bride may choose something just like this.

What do you think is 2021 style exactly? 70s, boho and outdoors ticks every wedding trend for 2021 so this dress runs a very real risk of being similar to lots of bride dresses. A 2000 wedding you might have a point.

Bumblebee1980a · 04/05/2021 22:57

I wouldn't. Sorry.

what's an "average 2021 style"? Confused
Pinkbrush · 04/05/2021 22:59

Not bridal at all. Don’t know what wedding dresses some of these lot have seen but i’ve never seen a wedding dress like this! Go for it, you’ll look lovely!

@Mistlewoeandwhine

Don’t do it. Why even potentially upset someone on their wedding day? Don’t do a Liz Hurley.
What did Liz Hurley do? I've Googled and can't find anything.
Thewinterofdiscontent · 04/05/2021 23:00

I think if you’re asking it means you know it could be wrong. Nice dress but more summer party or christening

Of course you won’t look like the bride but the combination of formal style, white, soft pink flowers and length mean it looks potentially a bit wedding party rather than celebratory.

Foxhasbigsocks · 04/05/2021 23:01

No from me.

I opened the dress photo expecting to be able to say oh it’ll be fine. I wouldn’t wear this to a wedding - too long, too swishy to get away with it being so white.

People do tut at people wearing white to weddings. Can’t you get it for summer and get a safer option for this wedding

feelingfree17 · 04/05/2021 23:01

It’s stunning. Not bridal at all. I would have loved to see one of my guests wear this dress.

worriedatthemoment · 04/05/2021 23:02

I think its fine , for all anyone knows maybe the bride isn't even wearing white
Its got lots of pink on and with coloured accessories etc
And it looks zero like a wedding dress

wasgoingmadinthecountry · 04/05/2021 23:02

I don't think it looks bridal at all -just a very pretty dress that actually has quite a lot of colour on it.

That nothing remotely white thing goes for me with the utterly naff you have to match your partner's tie for a wedding. Who made that one up??

motherloaded · 04/05/2021 23:03

show her underwear trying to upstage the bride. Classy.
