Bra intervention - non-wired bra experiences

What are your experiences of non-wired bras?

I was advised by a breast consultant to try non-wired bras after I'd had some discomfort possibly caused by wires.

I went out and bought a few non wired bras (M&S and John Lewis) but find them all very uncomfortable. I'm fairly small busted (measure 30 back but go up to a 32 for comfort often) and a D cup.

I've found that bras with no wires tend to have a band that is very 'tight' and firm, or the bottom edge of the cups dig in across my chest. OR there are seams around the cups to give support that are just as hard as a wire. I'm thinking of bralettes but being small, I want some padding!

Have you looked at the wire-free Freya Deco?

I'm petite and wires never sit right so I wear wireless moulded cup t-shirt bras pretty much exclusively. I also love the Wear My Freedom bras, but oy vey they are pricey.

I think you just need to experiment with sizes. I’m the same size band as you and in bravissimo sizes I’m a 30GG but I absolutely can’t stand wired bras (asthma and lupus make them so painful) so tend to go for a 34F ish in non wires.

Anyone have any recommendations for 38HH non wired??? I hate wires! Also hate the boobs too but stuck with them :-(

Definitely experiment with different brands and sizes - I only discovered padded non-wired bras after my first pregnancy (I need the padding) and I've never gone back! My most comfy ones are from Freya and sainsburys funnily enough! I'm a 34DD/E.

I love Molke as well but they’re the marmite of bras. according to their sizing I’m supposed to be a small super but I prefer a large comsic for comfort.

Try mastectomy bras, I have an issue with excema and lace/seems etc and wear mainly m&s mastectomy bras give good support but are comfortable

I tried to go wireless a few months back but no matter what I tried I just got a monoboob-I’m overweight though so that probably had something to do with it. Back to underwired for me

I'm a 34 c. I bought a 3 pack of lacy crop tops from Amazon for about a tenner in lockdown. I'm converted, they are fab.

I think one issue I have with non wired is that all the support has to come from the band. These tend to be very firm and a lot less stretchy than for wired bras.

I've got the J Lewis Willow bra @Toolateplanting. It's okay but the seams on the cups are as firm almost as wires.

To be fair they do give you monoboob whatever weight or shape you are generally as the support comes from squashing them! It doesn’t bother me, I don’t really care what shape I am as I wear a lot of baggy / loose clothes but I can see it would bother others.

I will say that M&S Rosie bra which comes in alabaster and black is okay- I have two. It's pre-formed and works quite well as there is no separate band under the cups. But it is around £28.

I went bra free for lockdown and haven't looked back. Even wireless comfort bra's get uncomfortable round the band to me. I will need to wear one for work once we are physically back, but no one can tell on zoom. Or if they can they are too polite to mention!

Those of you who have tried molke bras, I keep looking at them, wondering if they would hold me up and in place and sort out my lop-sidedness...
I'm rather ummm... large (32 GG), and coming up as a M Super. It seems like only the black bras have good support and they are so, well, not pretty, but I thibk trying to find something pretty and comfortable may be mission impossible. Are they worth a try, they aren't cheap if they are no good, but if they are then I'd be very happy to spend that money!

@Rollintodarkness you need to get the size right but honestly they are fantastic. I'm a 28HH in normal bras so similar to you and they work an absolute treat. They all offer decent support but you're right, the black are the firmest fabrics. Annoyingly that can mean you are more comfortable in different sizes depending on the fabrics, though, so watch out for that. Currently I'm wearing an XS Mega in black, but fitting happily into an XS Super in softer fabrics e.g. rainbows.

Don't stress if the band feels a little tight at first, either - you need to get the correct size or you won't get the support. And they get slightly looser with wear and washing. I've lost a bit of weight and am now using my S band ones as sleep bras: much better than nothing, and nicer for sleeping than a tighter band, but I don't feel like I could confidently leave the house in them. Whereas with an XS band they really do the job and I can head outdoors without fear or shame LOL.

There's a Facebook group for buying and selling preloved Molke bras, worth a try perhaps? They actually hold their value fairly well though, so you won't get a huge bargain on there. If you're unsure of sizing, buying direct from Molke is probably best as you can do returns or exchanges.

Good luck! I tried Molke years ago and just couldn't get on with them, but for some reason tried again a couple of years ago and especially having figured out the sizing I am now utterly converted. I literally don't wear any other type of bra, except for running when I wear a proper sports bra. :-)

I wore my usual bra throughout my radiotherapy, although I didn't have any real burning effects until after treatment had finished, After that, I used soft crop tops which I purchased as per the recommendation of my doctor until it's all settled down.
I recently purchased lace bralettes from this website. It never feels itchy, barely ever have to readjust. it is a great pick for travel. It also prevents tissue damage and helps you to move around freely. I also used Lace bralette bras but only as a crop top/ tank tops with sheer outfits and denim jackets which give me a casual look.
