Is not tucking tops into jeans now considered old fashioned? Along with skinnies?
Every programne i see on tv shows people with tops tucked in.
It got me wondering
Is it it only us oldies who don't do this?Confused

I'm not a fan of tucking things in.
I thing it looks unflattering.
It makes my arse look huge and not in a good way!

My rule is never wear a trend that makes me look worse. So if tucked in tops arent flattering to you, wear your top out. No point being fashionable and not looking good. You can nod to trends with other parts of your outfit or accessories, hair style etc if you're so minded.

BlackSwan · 02/05/2021 19:42

The answer is the French Tuck. Just tuck in the front of your shirt/top. In my experience you have to do it about 5 times to get the top to sit right, but it's more flattering.

Howyoudoingirl · 02/05/2021 19:43

French tuck. Take to fingers & tuck in a small section between belly button & hip.

userchange856 · 02/05/2021 20:10

I was told the French tuck is "out" but I don't care! I have a flat stomach and neatish waist but am very big chested, if I don't tuck my top in at least partially I inevitably look bigger than I am, so I would do what suits your body rather than what's on trend.

ZaraW · 03/05/2021 07:34

Tucked in. I was never a fan of the French tuck.

ZaZathecat · 03/05/2021 08:20

I get what you mean about tucked in making you look bigger. Same for me as I don't have much of a waist. My compromise is shorter tops or jumpers that fall only just below the waist and you can just see your belt.

Lampan · 03/05/2021 08:26

To me it depends on the top and on the jeans. It’s flattering for me to tuck in if the jeans are high waisted, but only as long as it doesn’t create too much billowing in the top. I don’t like the look of a french tuck, it looks messy to me. I think you have to experiment and do whatever works best for you. I suppose tucking in is to emphasise the waist and stomach/bottom so it depends what you are trying to do

TableNiner · 03/05/2021 09:40

I can’t get tucking in right. My large bust makes it pull if the top is constricted at the bottom, the ‘smuggling ferrets’ look. I also wear low rise trousers so that doesn’t look quite right either. Also I don’t like the idea of readjusting every time you go to the loo, especially if it took you a while to get it right. It also seems difficult to get one with the right amount of material to tuck in but not so much it’s billowing.

I like the look so tend to look for slightly shorter tops which hit the body in the same sort of place when not tucked in. There is definitely a trend for the top half of the body to look shorter, it looks modern.

AnaViaSalamanca · 03/05/2021 14:06

How am a short waisted hourglass and tucking never works for me. I don’t consider it old fashioned at all as I think I am quite stylish myself Grin

StarlightLady · 03/05/2021 14:21

With some of the jeans about at the moment, l could tuck my bra in, let alone my top.

Then when you (try to) sit down in the things, they feel as if they are going to cut you in half.

iwantadogdhdoesnt · 03/05/2021 14:28

I'm a serial french tucker, works if you're v slim or less so

iwantadogdhdoesnt · 03/05/2021 14:29

I've also said the word tuck too many times in my head now and it sounds made up 😆

HunterHearstHelmsley · 03/05/2021 14:39

Tucked in. I only tend to wear jeans so it's easy to tuck in or a specific style of skirt where it looks odd if untucked. I tend to stick to dresses otherwise.

I don't think I've ever thought someone would look better untucked but almost always want to shove someone's top down their waistband if they are untucked Grin

TooMuchYarn · 03/05/2021 14:42

Tucked looks awful on me so I don't.
I find a lot of websites are only showing tops tucked - and its very annoying! I don't mind a tucked photo, but would also like to see an untucked, or a least the full garment to see what the hems are like and how long it is!

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 03/05/2021 14:47

Tucked looks more trendy, but agree with others that it depends on your shape. I'm hourglass and carry all my weight on my lower abdomen, and I was really unsure about tucked in to start with, but in the end I decided that my waist is my best bit so I'm going to emphasise that even if there is a fat bit underneath - you can see the fat anyway, so I might as well show the nice waist above as well! Also boxy loose tops make me look enormous all over, so I can't do those.

goose1964 · 03/05/2021 14:57

I wore a top tucked in when I met my family for a meal. I looked all leg , so basically boobs and legs with a tiny bit of body inbetween. If your long bodied it would probably be fine but if you have a short body you'd probably need to think again.

Anoisagusaris · 03/05/2021 15:03

I have a massive stomach so not a chance I’d ever tuck a top in.

MapleMay11 · 03/05/2021 15:14

Tucked in unless the top doesn't work like this. The French tuck is dated and doesn't look good on most people that try it - avoid at all costs.

LaBellina · 03/05/2021 15:16

I always feel tucking in my top makes me look sloppy. I also love skinny jeans.
I don’t care if that makes me unfashionable.
Wear what makes you feel good and wear it how you like it!

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 03/05/2021 15:19

An untucked top often ends at the widest part of the body (the hips/bum), drawing attention to it. Tucking it in is a way of drawing the eye upwards to a slimmer part of the body - if you care about that sort of thing of course.

HopingForOurRainbowBaby · 03/05/2021 15:23

Yep same. In fact I spend more time pulling my top over my massive belly to hide it
JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 03/05/2021 15:30

I have a big mum tum so no way I'd tuck anything in!
