Epilator - solution for shaving rash?

JoanDarc · 01/05/2021 22:37

I’m fair, slightly sensitive skin with light hair growth on legs, which doesn’t like shaving. I get a rash/ reaction that seems to be there permanently, it looks like shaved angry goosebumps! 🤦‍♀️
Any ideas for how to avoid? I’m considering if an epilator would be worthwhile, only for legs as I can shave/lumea bikini/ underarms without issue. Anyone use one and care to share experience of?

I use one in the summer. I have a low pain threshold so I do one last shave and then epilate daily for a few days as it re grows. This then lasts for ages before I get a gradual staggered regrowth that I epilate as it appears. I'm sure other, tougher people can just do it all in one go! They do work and are quite satisfying. Only drawback is you have to remember to exfoliate and moisturise your legs once in a while.

I have the Silk Epil which you can use in the shower. Cuts down on the pain when the skin is wet. Just make sure the hairs aren't too long because that makes it hurt more.

As an aside, can you use the lumea for getting rid of all pubic hair? (not just bikini line)

Thanks both, I think I would get one suitable for wet use if this helps with the pain.
@MrsSnitchnose you can use the lumea anywhere as long as you can hair remove first. You use it on two weekly cycles first then can drop frequency to monthly after this.

Thanks @JoanDarc I will definitely look into getting one. I have PCOS and the hair is ridiculous. If I shave in the morning, I have stubble again by the evening and it's a constant battle.

Once you get used to epilating, you get used to it and it doesn't really cause pain anymore. I never have to use mine wet for my legs anymore, just helped in the beginning while I was adapting. The results are good too, I can get a week or two of smoothness afterwards and I have bald patches now which don't really grow at all

@MrsSnitchnose I think you would love the lumea. I’ve got relatively light hair growth but do lots of exercise year round and was forever shaving underarms so purchased purely for underarms/ bikini line as I knew my leg hair was too blond to work. You should note that you need a contrast between hair and skin, so white or blonde hair won’t work and I think there may be something with darker skin tones so worthwhile reading up on this.

@JoanDarc Just been having a look. I'm pale and my hairs are mid-darker brown/reddish so could be good. Amazon have them on 5 monthly payments at the moment so when I've paid off my fridge, I'm going to order one Smile
