I keep buying the wrong jeans

I’ve put on weight and my shape has changed.

I’ve bought 7 different pairs of jeans and after one day’s wear I realise they are not the right jeans for me.

From being too high waisted and buttons digging in to me, stretching too much, constantly sliding down, not holding my tummy in enough almost as if waist and legs fit but tummy area too big, each of them is not what I thought they’d be when I tried them on compared to how they wear.

I almost feel like there should be a jeans shop like Bravissimo where someone tells you how your ideal pair of jeans is meant to fit and flatter your figure.

I’m 1.62cm tall, now a good size 14 and all my weight is tummy and waist, a true apple shape. My torso is also short compared to my legs so I’ve discovered that even though high rise jeans are meant to hold in muffin top waists, they’re too high for my short torso.

Can anyone please recommend a pair of jeans that I could try? I wear jeans most days and I’ve spent too much buying the wrong ones. I need help.

Oh god I feel your pain ! Watching this thread with interest to see if anyone has any good recommendations x

HadEnoughofOtherThreads · 01/05/2021 09:48

I think everyone has this issue. Trying to find the right style of comfortable and flattering jeans is often tedious and sometimes an expensive nightmare!

And soo frustrating as you can’t try a pair of jeans on in the shops ATM due to Covid.

HadEnoughofOtherThreads · 01/05/2021 09:57

If you’re up for wearing supermarket brands, I have found that F&F (Tesco) jeans are a really good fit. I’ve been given got lots several freebies over the years from a friend who used to work in the Buying Team.

Woodswoman · 01/05/2021 10:03

What style do you prefer?

Candleabra · 01/05/2021 10:06

I liked the Levi's curve range a few years ago. They measured you and told you the best fit. The hip to waist differential was much bigger than other jeans so they were a great fit. Discontinued now, so maybe only I thought so!

Koolandorthegang · 01/05/2021 10:07

I second the recommendation of the F&F Tesco jeans. Great fit and really good quality. They have lots of different style options a s lengths too. You may need to size down as I find they come up big.

FuckingFabulous · 01/05/2021 10:08

Ugh, I feel your pain. There's an 12 inch difference between my waist and hips so jeans either have to be sitting on my hips and about three sizes bigger than my waist, so baggy on the thigh, or they have to be really stretchy and high waisted, which are always too tight on the hip. I hate jeans.

Cooltalkin · 01/05/2021 10:16

Next crop mid rise
Wide ish leg cut straight , with stretch , not so high it’s under your bra ,
Lightweight as has some viscose in mix£24 x

Procrastatron · 01/05/2021 10:28

The best jeans I’ve found recently are thanks to a mumsnet thread... “vintage” 501s off eBay. They are high rise enough to hold my tummy in but not so high that they push my tummy down and out. They have no elastane so don’t bag in odd places but obviously give a bit on first wear after a wash.
If anyone’s interested I can dig out the thread with all the advice on how to buy the right size and grade (quality). It’s also worth pointing out that I have a 75% waist to hip ratio and they still fit well even though they are “men’s” jeans.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 01/05/2021 10:37

Uniqlo are pretty good for apple shapes, I have several pairs of their Ultra Stretch Skinny Fit jeans. They are stretchy but don't get looser through the day like some stretch jeans do.

Spiceyornicey · 01/05/2021 10:43

Dreadful.
I’ll tell you how i dealt with it , and it was a horror.
I bought jeans 4, yes 4 sizes up from primark. And then I spliced the size labels out. I just bought loads and was absolutely mortified at the ones that fit . But it is what it is. My size for clothes hasn’t changed really, but jeans are often cut for teenagers, and I’m not one .

Apple signing in. Size 14.

Next lift slim and shape in flare or bootcut or their sculpt jegging. If I want just comfort but a skinny profile then their jersey denim leggings are good although not as flattering as the sculpt ones.

New Look Emilee jeggings are also great.

All staying place without digging in or going baggy.

SmashingPumpkinPatch · 01/05/2021 10:57

I have a very squidgy tummy and waistline at the moment, (need to work on it), and it does make jeans a lot harder! I have started wearing straight cut, either mid rise or high waisted. I'm more hourglass than apple, because I do have big hips, but my tummy isn't great after babies.

I think the mid rise is actually better than the high waist for my tummy and muffin top. I'd have thought it would be the other way round.

Here you go. I bought a 33 waist and my actual waist is 30 on a bad day. Defo could have managed a 32 but enjoy the relaxed fit of the 33.

I hate Jeans shopping, have now turned to dresses as much as possible! I'm Apple shaped, size 18-20, slim legs (in comparison to stomach). Jeans just look dire on me, I end up going big to get my stomach and hips in, then saggy between my legs/thighs. Just hideous SadGrin

Same here although I’m a 20-22. I bought some Dorothy Perkins Eden jeggings in a 20 at xmas and they are fine. Then accidentally bought blue denim ones in a 22 and they are very comfortable around my stomach but baggy in the leg. I ended up turning up the bottoms and now I think they look quite good. Lose in the leg but in a good way I think!
SmashingPumpkinPatch · 01/05/2021 11:20

That's a great idea to buy skinnies in a size up! Loose on the leg but comfy on the waist.

user1471554720 · 01/05/2021 11:26

I buy m&s jeans. They are 28 or 30 euro and are 14 short. I am 5ft 3 inches, 11 stone.
Sienna Straight Leg Jeans with Stretch
Product code: 02523965
Size: 14 Short/Petite
Colour: BLUE/BLACK

If you are in the shop, per una jeans are dearer but are good quality and flattering.

I buy jeans which are classic cut, not too tight but not the mom jeans either.

SmashingPumpkinPatch · 01/05/2021 11:57

Yes, I have a pair of M&S Siennas too, and really like them

Have you tried a toy shop? The dolls section.

MatthewHBpig · 01/05/2021 12:25

I really like Salsa jeans- some have shaping built in.
