The most elegant/classy diamond engagement ring cut?

Not sure if this is the right place to post so apologies if not.

Is there some sort of standard of what the most "classy" cut is for a diamond engagement ring?

Just going through the process with OH now of choosing my ring and really unsure about which cut to go for! I like them all except emerald and oval.

I made a mistake with my engagement ring. I decided I didn't want a solitaire (crazy woman) so I bought a multi-stone ring (from Samara James...recommended).

It's this one

The trouble is it doesn't really work as an engagement ring. I had to have my wedding ring cut to accommodate it and now I want an eternity ring..big birthday coming up... and there's no way it's going to fit alongside my existing rings.

I love the ring but in retrospect it was a bad choice.

Brilliant cut solitaire on a platinum band.

Enjoy picking your ring out - it was a lot of fun when I did it!

I probably agree with you that it's not for engagement but it is a beautiful ring!

You won’t know what you prefer til you try on a few. I went ring browsing with a totally different style in mind but I fell in love with a cushion cut diamond with diamond halo. It just suited my hand and the sales lady seemed to know that it would.

Please do post a pic!

I really do not like pear or marquise cut diamonds and don't even get me started on heart shape. For me cushion cut is my favourite followed by brilliant and princess. With emerald cut I find it dulls the sparkle especially if the clarity is not so good.

SunshineCake · 29/04/2021 19:12

I have a full eternity ring and a half. My full one was a little big but sits behind my wedding and engagement rings so is okay. I had my E and W rings made bigger after I didn't lose baby weight and years later I've lost it all and more and now they are loose. I don't catch the full eternity on anything and it still looks brand new. My half eternity moves and of course it is obvious as only half the band has stones.

I have a ring with two round diamonds and one ring with a single diamond that is also round but because of the setting it looks square.

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 29/04/2021 19:12

I love a marquise cut, and have some large heart shaped diamond earrings, but each to his own. I think it depends on how well cut you get diamonds, i prefer the more unusual shapes.

Overdueanamechange · 29/04/2021 19:17

I would buy vintage, you get some much more for your money, regardless of cut. Really good quality diamonds are timeless. Make sure you try on the ring with a wedding band.

doomonic · 29/04/2021 22:35

For me it was & is emerald

doomonic · 29/04/2021 22:39

Princess cuz and emerald cut look nice and can be trendy at times but have less facets that a round and the other two cuts I recommend and because of that they'll sparkle less. When you have less facets and a more 'open' looking stone as in the emerald and princess and often ovals too you need to make sure the stone is the best clarity because imperfections and inclusions will be much more noticeable because there are less facets to distract from them

This is true, mine doesn't sparkle as much as other cuts & is smaller than others you could get for DHs budget as he went for the best clarity & quality.

Wow that's stunning. Congratulations x

SwimmingOnEggshells · 18/05/2021 14:17

Cushion cut is beautiful.

Old cut diamonds are also very pretty, but not to everyone's taste. Have you checked any antique shops?

@Pinktruffle Don't get an eternity that goes all the way around. I have one and for a long time I couldn't wear it because I'd put on weight.

Happy shopping!

Rainallnight · 18/05/2021 14:20
