Is there a good salicylic for the body?

I get a bit of KP which I have under control with ameliorate but I need to stop that for the summer as even with sun cream it makes me go red and itchy in the sun. I have smal red spots on my legs and rough red knees despite exfoliating etc.

Can anyone recommend what I can use please?

La Roche posay do one in a blue bottle

Beenawhile1 · 27/04/2021 08:14

@EuroTrashed a lotion or a wash? Does it have AHA in it? I know that is the problem with the sun hence needing to stop ameliorate

Paulas choice do one with good reviews. I use the BHA 2% body exfoliant

Fferny1 · 27/04/2021 09:34

Yes, Cerave do a cream with Salicylic acid in which is good.

Beenawhile1 · 27/04/2021 11:10

Lovely thanks @Fferny1 @allofthecheese are these ok with the sun?

I do have some nip and fab pads but these are expensive and go through them too quick

I’ve just started using Cerave SA smoothing cream and have seen an improvement in KP on my arms and legs already within a week of daily use. Afraid I can’t answer about the sun, as we’ve not been lucky enough to have much sunshine where I live yet.

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 27/04/2021 11:17

The Dove ProAge body lotion in the red bottle contains exfoliating acids. It is very fragranced though, so not ideal if you are sensitive to that but it is an affordable and effective option for areas where you need to use a lot.

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 27/04/2021 11:19

Do you react to BHA (salicylic) in the sun in the same way? Have you actually tested it?

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 27/04/2021 11:23

The dove is AHA so probably no good if you are reactive to those. The problem with Paula’s Choice is that is quite expensive, though if you are used to spending money on Ameliorate you possibly won’t mind.

allofthecheese · 27/04/2021 12:06

Yep it's fine. Make sure to use high factor SPF

Beenawhile1 · 27/04/2021 12:45

Ameliorate is AHA snd I not only burn easier (already burn easily though so I’m careful) but when I use this my skin is even more sensitive in the sun @BalladOfBarryAndFreda I haven’t ever noticed a difference when I use the nip and fab pads but only to use those 1-2 times a week and just my face.

@HorridHamble I have a tube of that! Haven’t opened it yet. Do you think it will work on my shins? They are little red spots but def hair follicle so not KP like bumpy o get on my arms but I guess the same kind of thing? Better since I do IPL but last marks won’t budge

I will pay the money for something that works for sure!

HorridHamble · 27/04/2021 13:30

@Beenawhile1 yes, i have noticed an improvement in the red dots on my legs. I have kp bumps on my upper arms and a little on my thighs, but the red dots on my shins (whatever they are called) do seem to be improving too. Like you, I have had ipl. How disappointing that it wasn’t a shaving or waxing rash that caused them!

I reckon I’ll keep using the Cerave SA but maybe twice a day to see if they disappear entirely. There’s been a significant improvement already though, and I have smoother, less spotty legs than I ever remember having before.

Beenawhile1 · 27/04/2021 13:33

@HorridHamble thanks so much makes me feel a little more human and that I’m not alone! I hide my legs when it’s warm, no shorts etc and I don’t tan which doesn’t help! Really want to get it under control and not be as paranoid!

@HorridHamble is it this one attached?

Soap and glory do one and it doesn't smell sickly sweet like most of their range. It's really good and sinks in really quickly. (Salli Hughes recommends it)
It's called 3 in 1......something, can't quite remember. Pale green in colour. Huge pump bottle for about £9
Smells a lot better than ameliorate for sure!

Beenawhile1 · 27/04/2021 14:10

I like the smell of ameliorate, smells like talc Grin thanks will look at that too

Also what about shower gel? What should i use to help?

OP posts:
HorridHamble · 27/04/2021 14:16

@Beenawhile1 looks like mine, only I got a 340g tub

You’re definitely not alone. I have great legs...in opaque tights! I have had spotty and bumpy legs for as long as I can remember. No amount of exfoliating and moisturising has helped. Im going to keep going with the Cerave sa then slap on some fake tan and hope for the best!

Beenawhile1 · 27/04/2021 14:18

Yea I have bought some fake tan actually to try as haven’t bothered for years but want to try to get the bumps under control plus my stupid red knees, lord knows what that’s about!

Soap and glory clean on me shower gel has fruit acids in and works well on me

QueenPaw · 27/04/2021 14:21

Oh and the soap and glory lotion is the sugar crush one

Beenawhile1 · 27/04/2021 14:31

@QueenPaw I use the clean on me and it doesn’t mention acids?

OP posts:
QueenPaw · 27/04/2021 14:33

Oh that's weird! It did used to say it on the front of the bottle, wonder if they've changed it. It makes a big difference to my KP
