My 40th birthday outfit

My 40th birthday is this summer, what shall I wear!! I need a going out outfit and a family bbq type outfit.
I am size 16 and don't want anything clingy around my middle as I hate that area. Skirt/dress length best for me is just above my knee.
Can anyone help!

I like that, might be a little long though. Think I will just have to get a load of things and try them on.

Lots of dresses are longer right now. I think the look I’m posting with the wide trousers and jacket is ultra suitable for a bbq.

I have attached some dresses too. Gingham is really big right now for casual and dressing up. Plus understated floral. These dresses are a bit less granny than some. You might have to shorten them but I would try longer ones and see if they suit you. I cannot see why not.

M&S have a few great dresses this year. Cotton and well designed. Not expensive. Ganni are also a good brand if you want to spend more.
