What do people wear to work now?

I spent lockdown working from home, then was made redundant last month. I applied for any job available and now work in civil service. It’s a bit random for me as I’m now out of my graduate field!

We’re now returning to the office and I have no idea what to wear. My normal field is finance and was business attire only, which I think may be ott for civil service. Any advice appreciated

I have no useful advise but wanted to wish you well in your new job.

I wear business attire but have definitely become more relaxed about it recently. Dressy trainers have been worn to the office a few times.

@SlatternIsMyMiddleName thank you so much Smile that’s very kind of you

Which trainers do you wear for dressier occasions? Trainers would be ideal frankly, I think my days of heels at work are over!

Hi @wingsnthat
Well done on the job.
The Civil Service is very relaxed dress wise, at least the bits I'm used to, and I think likely to be more so now.
If you are not customer facing then anything clean and vaguely appropriate for an office is fine, jeans, dresses, open necked shirts for men.

Congratulations on the new job. Do you know if your office has a definite dress code? I'm not a civil servant but I work for a arms length government body. Our dress code (pre covid) was business casual, so you just had to look smart but not formal. I don't like trousers so generally wore skater style dresses & tops/skirts, with tights & boots in winter & sandals or ballet flats in summer. The only things that were specifically banned were shorts/beach wear, really short skirts, baseball caps & flip flops. A few people wore jeans but smart ones & mostly in black so they just looked like chinos/trousers.
