Best factor 50 for face that you can put makeup on top of?

I use a factor 30 that is marketed to be used over face cream and under makeup. But I’d rather step it up to 50! The same brand doesn’t do 50.

Any recommendations for a good daily factor 50? Not too sticky or greasy, also not too white?! (If that makes sense!)

There was a guardian column on this last week I think, Vichy and La Roche Posay were recommended

AwkwardSquad · 25/04/2021 08:48

Avene have a great dry touch factor 50 for the face. If you’re after a French pharmacy range ( Avene, LRP etc), Escentual have a promotion on at the moment

Heliocare 360 gel oil free is by far the best I’ve tried. It absorbs quickly and the product is a light peach colour as opposed to white. I actually think it makes my make up stay on better than before I used it.

Only problem is that since Brexit, the price has shot up

Pinkflipflop85 · 25/04/2021 08:55

I use boots Soltan for face.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 25/04/2021 09:00

LRP for me a I've just bought the new anti age one, which hopefully means I can skip moisturiser for the summer. Have heard good things. My problem is when I do my neck and chest my clothes get it. Even if I wait and leave it soak in..

The Biore Watery Essence sinks in really well and no whiteness.

Chatanooga1 · 25/04/2021 10:13

I use this and wear make up

I'm using an E Lauder one in the Perfectionist range- spf 45. It's all mineral.

Clinique City Block spf 40 is good but very tinted- no good for me as too dark.

There is very little difference between spf 40 or 50.

I am avoiding a lot of sunscreens that are chemical ones as they are linked to all sorts of health issues. Google harmful sunscreens. I think off hand they are all the ones with benzo-something or other.

Amelia666 · 25/04/2021 11:32

I use Bobbi Brown ‘primer plus protection’ spf50 which is exactly as it says - a primer but spf50. I find it sinks in quickly and gives a good makeup base. Running low though so I’m watching with interest for other recommendations!

actiongirl1978 · 25/04/2021 11:35

I use sunsense daily face 50 which is a moisturiser and sunscreen in one.

I also in high summer use the avene tinted face cream. V thick and strong colour which rwquires me to have a base tan.

DH uses the non tinted one which is the only one that doesn't run into his eyes and irritate them.

I won't use that because it contains this Avobenzone 3.00%

Avobenzone, also a benzophenone
Health Hazard Eco Hazard
A very common ingredient in FDA approved chemical-based sunscreens. Avobenzone is often used in replace of Oxybenzone, but is still a benzophenone and holds with it similar risks associated with Oxybenzone. This ingredient works the same as oxybenzone in that it penetrates the skin and is also used to help other chemicals penetrate the skin. It also photodegrades in with exposure to sunlight, increasing free radicals in the skin, increasing risks of types of skin cancer as well as photocontact alltergies to sunscreens. ^www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19856938^

This one. There's another version which has glycerine in, they're usually together on the shelf and pretty similar

I find altruist products really good. They're the only ones that don't make my eyes itch and run. I use the anti-redness one but it is tinted and not so good if the colour isn't right. The above link gives the non tinted one

dudsville · 25/04/2021 12:20

My favorite is the estee lauder one,.

Quitelikeacatslife · 25/04/2021 12:40

I use dermalogica dynamic skin recovery as day cream, is factor 50

CatherineCawood · 25/04/2021 12:43

I got some factor 50 LRP at Boots couple of weeks ago - its on special offer 25% but think the website another poster above mentioned currently has 30% off.

LaBellina · 25/04/2021 12:46

La Roche Posay Anthelios matte fluid
Clinique City Block
Biore Aquarich Watery Essence spf 50

GlamGiraffe · 25/04/2021 13:00

ISDIN. Used it for years. They also do powder yo yop up throughout the dsy which might be of interest although i dont use that. Its apgarmacy brand ftlrom spain. Much better than anything else ive tried.theyhave webdite with all their dacial products on with info.

ElderMillennial · 25/04/2021 13:26

I use Ultra Sun SPF 50 for face.

QVC has deals on it sometimes.

It can sometimes leave a very slight white cast if not rubbed in properly but fine if putting make up on top plus I have tan skin and I think you can get tinted versions.

LadyRachetine · 25/04/2021 13:33

Another vote for biore watery essence. No white cast, not sticky, dries quickly to a lovely smooth finish. I put cc cream over the top but I’m sure foundation would work just as well.

umberellaonesie · 25/04/2021 13:35

I'm using body shop one just now.
I have rosacea so have a few layers of stuff underneath it then foundation on top. It sits well no pilling

Imnotbent · 25/04/2021 13:38

I have used this for a few years, I use the tinted so I can go without make up. Very runny mind, you shake it and be careful have much you pour out.

Nivea UV face SPF 50 is very good. The Sensitive and Anti-shine versions don’t leave any shine at all.
The Anti-age Q10 version is a little richer and does leave a bit of shine though.

Darklane · 25/04/2021 15:28

I second the Nivea anti shine one. Really good under makeup.
