Find me budget cotton midi dresses for an apple shape?

I rarely wear dresses but thinking of trying some out this summer. My budget is under 50 pounds, until I figure out what suits me. I am 5"7 and a size 12. It needs to be cotton or mostly cotton. Most budget buys seem to be polyester.:(

I'm jolly glad you asked this question as I went on to the Weird Fish site to get this link for you (I too am an apple and this dress is really flattering - and organic cotton) and they've got a sale on and 10% off! Slightly annoying I paid full price for another colourway earlier in the week but at least this one was cheaper Smile

I love that dress, thank you. May I ask if it is short though? It looks above the knee on the model and also a bit clingy. I am carrying all my weight on my stomach, so don't want to draw any attention to that area. I have good legs but it's very windy where I live, and I don't like to flash people!

Saw a lot of nice viscose dresses; maybe I will have to consider them.

I'm 5'5" and it's on the knee. One of the reviewers said she's 6ft and it's just above the knee. Definitely not clingy (or I wouldn't be wearing it) but not flappy either. You can always return it if it's not right?

Nobody’s Child is a great sustainable brand with lots of midi dresses: www.nobodyschild.com/clothing/dresses/midi-dresses/lenzingtm-ecoverotm-blue-and-white-ditsy-alexa-midi-dress.html

I’ve just had a nobody’s child dress from M&S and it is stunning. It’s a midI/maxi length which is fab on me (5’8). I was super impressed with it.

Thanks @StCharlotte, that 's good to know. I am 49 and perimenopausal, so this apple shape is quite recent and I don't know how to cover it up.

I love the Nobody's Child dresses too. @enjoyingscience can I ask which one you ordered if you are apple shaped? I am wondering if a 49 yr old can wear a smock shape. Think I will order a bunch of stuff and then try on a lot.

Uniqlo also has some 100% cotton dresses but their sizing has been odd lately, so I may look like a sack. www.uniqlo.com/sg/en/products/E440191-000?colorCode=COL59

@Frequentflier I have several dresses in this shape. For an apple they are more forgiving than a straight shift dress I find.

I really like A-Line or swing shape dresses too although the wind might catch you out in some of those!

Bought that dress StCharlotte with an extra 10% off until midnight

I quite like viscose dresses as they wash well, and if it’s not too hot I don’t get too sweaty- definitely prefer cotton for hot weather. New Look are worth a look.

I jus bought some kids school cycling shorts from next in age 16. They do them in white, navy and black. They are amazing for wearing under summer dresses. Give me a bit more confidence I won’t flash someone as wel as a bit of extra warmth. I am a size 10. I am a short allle and do t really shut longer dresses.

Frequentflier I'm an apple and find patterned wrap dresses the most flattering. Next online have loads of midi wrap dresses under £50 but as you say mostly synthetic materials.

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 26/04/2021 06:47

www2.hm.com/en_gb/productpage.0954579003.html H&M of all places actually have some 100% cotton dresses for under £30!

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 26/04/2021 06:50

www2.hm.com/en_gb/productpage.0975684002.html a longer cotton dress for £34

Some lovely looking dresses on there; they are not expensive. How do you find the quality?

Hodgewell1 · 26/04/2021 08:46

Hi Pottedpalm, the dresses I have bought have washed well and held their shape. I read into the brand and they manage to keep their costs low by reducing the number of zips and details that cost money so they tend to be simpler in style. I would be happy to buy another dress from there again

Thanks, that’s helpful. I know most stuff in the shops is over priced but then wonder about the cheaper stuff!

I also liked these cotton dresses at Next. www.next.co.uk/g68182s2/870705#870705
