Casual vintage style?

Morning! I love vintage style and have some great dressy pieces, but need to adapt to create a more realistic, looking after young children, day-to-day wardrobe. However, I’d really love to keep a vintage-y style... just can’t quite figure out what to wear? So, comfortable, washable... but with a vintage twist? Any ideas, lovely S&B posters? Links much appreciated too!

Thanks in advance. 🤞🏼😊

Joe Browns was the first company I thought of, which do vintage-y type clothing.

Full marks (no pun intended) to M and S, they have a great range of dresses in this year.

What era vintage do you like?

Have you looked at & Other Stories and Rouje?

How about high waist mom jeans and tied at the front, cropped shirt? I always think that looks quite like a stylish land girl for some reason, or someone 'digging for victory'!

Do you have a particular era you like to take inspiration from?

'Vintage' is quite a broad term. What styles/decades do you like?

Yes, I agree! 50s/60s ski pants or Capri pants also work with a tie-front shirt, worn with dainty little ballet flats

40s-style headwraps (also for that land girl look)

Vintage print cotton shirtdresses

Colour-matched twinsets

Vintage army surplus - I used to have a 1970s khaki British army uniform I was very fond of

Hair, make-up and headscarves/hats are the easiest ways to give a vintage feel to a non-vintage outfit. Also thinking about the overall silhouette rather than just individual pieces - Pinterest is great for research. If you can give an idea of the era you like it might be easier to advise on ways to get a more casual version of your dressy style? 60s is so different from 30s or 50s...

Personally, I like 40s-style floral dresses and skirts, but worn with sandals or trainers not heels; 70s belted jumpsuits and wide leg trousers with a fitted, tucked in t-shirt/sweater/shirt, and big shades/ floppy hat; 60s shift dresses, a-line mini skirts, roll necks and cigarette pants. Rouje is really good for retro looks.
