Long body short legs

Hi everyone.

I don’t know why it’s taken me 42 years to realize it (!) but I have a very long torso in comparison to my legs. My legs are also quite heavy.

What styles would suit me best? I’ve always gone for longer tops and jackets to cover my heavy bum and thighs but I’m now thinking I’ve been making a mistake for decades that’s just emphasized my short legs.

I’ve also favored wider leg trousers which, again, I suspect has been a mistake.

I also struggle with dresses as the waist is always too high.

Any tips from the similarly proportioned?

I find short, fitted jackets that end on the hip bone best teamed with straight leg jeans or trousers, always petite of course Confused or skirts that end on or just below the knee. If you can wear them, I can’t any more ( wonky hip) a small heel or wedge to age a bit of length to legs.
I don’t buy many dresses because of the waist problem unless they’re sort of a fitted sheath style, no waist as such, but buy a skirt & top in same colour to give a dress effect.

ADD length to leg Blush

Watch some of trinnys videos, she has this body shape.

I have short legs. I actually think it's just short calves? I tend to prefer dresses actually. They sit quite nicely on me especially if knee length (which makes me think short calves!)

High waisted trousers and skirts with the top tucked in do make me look taller/legs loom longer. But then I have a big stomach, bum and thighs so that doesn't always work. Hence why I like dresses!

I always go for a dark bottom half, uniform color no rips or bleached bits. Loose is fine for me. Lighter colors or a bit of skin showing near my face. That draws the eye up and distracts from short legs. Short tops or tucking tops in also gives me better shape. I just tuck in the front bit. With dresses, v neck or something that creates interest on the upper half works well for me - an empire line, wrap front, tie/belt above my natural waist etc. I feel amazing hair would also distract from short legs but I am not naturally blessed in that department and too lazy to do something about it Grin

Yes, shorter tops seem sensible now I think about it Confused

I will experiment with tucking tops in - again, something I’ve never tried.

I didn’t know trinny was this body shape - I’ve never noticed her having particularly short legs but I’ll check her out.

I have this shape, as well as a bigger bust, so tucking in tops just make me look top heavy

SoLongFurlough · 22/04/2021 17:52

Yes I’m the same
High waisted jeans or trousers seem to work well with a shorter top

lindyloo57 · 22/04/2021 18:19

Can't do high waisted to uncomfortable.

TableNiner · 22/04/2021 20:02

@lindyloo57 This is me too! Long bodies should indeed wear high waisted to give illusion of longer legs but I find them so uncomfortable. Also have disproportionate bust to contend with.

@MindBodyChocolate I think wider trousers are fine, just ideally with shorter tops/jackets. On the plus side people always think I am taller than I am as there’s so much torso.

MindBodyChocolate · 23/04/2021 09:05

@TableNiner - I do seem taller than I am, you’re right. When I went to buy a bike the bloke in the shop was most perplexed as to why my legs were dangling off a perfectly good sized bike Grin

@lindyloo57 - I have a reasonably small/average bust so I will give high waisted trousers a go.

Yes agree with most of the pp, shorter tops or tucked in, high waisted trousers, heels (but I cba). Straight or slim cut trousers not skinny.

Very much agree with Jenjenn about keeping the bottom half uniform and boring nothing to draw the eye. Also no brightly coloured or contrasting shoes. Then more detail around the face/shoulders.

Dresses - I think in many brands the waist of dresses is a bit too high for everyone even the catalogue models. It’s just the design, I guess they design them that way so we all look taller and longer legged.
