Skin + Me Code / Dermatica Issues

I am struggling with the amount of peeling I have a few days after using Dermatica. My prescription is Tret 0.05 / Niac 4%, which I don't think is too strong. The overall results are good but - My God - the peeling. I can look fine in the morning, by the afternoon my face looks like and map of the world with strips of skin on my nose almost flapping in the breeze! It isn't painful but looks terrible.
I have heard that Skin and Me doesn't seem to have the same issues. If anyone has any codes for starting or can share their experiences I would be grateful!

You just have to ride it out IME. I am using Skin and Me. I've got peeling, but it's just something that happens with tret. I'm using hyaluronic acid in the morning, and lots of cerave moisturiser. It's getting better. I'm 4 weeks in, and expect to be smooth in another 4! My skin looks way better already, despite peeling, but it took a few weeks to see that change.

Oh and my prescription is the same as yours!

Urgh, I have been using it for 18 months and hoping it would get better! If I use it twice a week the amount of time my skin looks good against the amount of times it's a flaky mess (which is about 3 days of flakiness) isn't really making it viable to me.

Oh sorry! I thought you'd got the peeling a few days after using it for the first time.

I can't imagine Skin + Me will be much better for you - it's literally the same prescription. But you could try the hyaluronic acid and cerave trick?

I've been using Skin + Me for three months. I haven't had any peeling at all, but they do start you off on a very low dose of tretinoin, increasing the % monthly by 0.003%. So, on month three for example, I'm still only on 0.015%. However, I like it that way. I'd rather build up slowly rather than have a stop/ start sort of a regime. My other active ingredients are 4% Niacinamide and 4% Azelaic Acid. My skin feels much better condition, smoother to the touch and with fewer colour imperfections. Wrinkle reduction is still TBC. If you'd like to use my code feel free: RACHELL5KJA. You'll get two months (1st and 5th) free.

I always put on a moisturiser about an hour after using Tret, if ever I forget, my skin feels tight, dry and flaky the next day.

CommunistLegoBlock. Cerve Hylauranic trick? Do tell!

Are you using it only twice a week? Could you tolerate more? Maybe you will get used to it if you build up usage? I've just gone from 0.05% to 0.1% and I am now peeling most mornings I have found Avene tolerance cream to be very good.

CommunistLegoBloc · 22/04/2021 18:32

It's just using hyaluronic acid on a damp face, then layering a good amount of Cerave moisturiser (which also has hyaluronic acid in it, and all the Amazon reviews are from grateful tret users!) I do this in the mornings before my spf and my skin is way less dry and peely. The Inky acid is good.

You do need to stick with the regime of moisturising. I wonder if the fact you're using relatively infrequently is meaning you're not building up the tolerance at the expected rate? I could be talking rubbish, but Skin + Me expects you to use it every night. Does Dermatica?

Agree with PPs that you should not be peeling after 18 months.

It would be better to try and get up to every night which might sound counter intuitive. Even if you peel worse you should move through that stage. You could buffer it with moisturiser both before and after. Also yes I increased my moisturising, both in the morning (introduced a hyaluronic toner) and the evening (thicker moisturiser than previously). Also make sure you leave it 10 mins or so before applying moisturiser.

I find Dermatica quite reactive when I tell them how things are going at the three month check in so surprised they haven’t picked this up and advised you better.
