How much to expect to pay for hair colour?

Hi, sorry if this is a silly question. I dye my hair at home but am wanting to get my (very long) roots done and improve the blonde I already have by a professional, as an end of lockdown treat. So I’m new to professional salon colouring and not sure how to book or how they price it.

My hair is long, to my chest, and fairly thick. The roots need bleaching, and the rest of my hair I’m not sure what they’ll need to do with it (ie just toning or more lightening).

How much should I expect to pay, on the lower end but still at a decent place? I’m in London. Also would I need to phone/email them to tell them what I want doing first, or even go in for a consultation. Again sorry for a silly question lol, thanks!

I am not in London, but last week I paid £110 for colour & cut. That was roots (lots of them!), toner and cut & blow dry. The cost is a bit different each time depending what I have done e.g. sometimes highlights, sometimes just roots & cut. My hair isn't thick but is chest-length.

When I first visited, the hairdresser insisted that I have a consultation before she'd quote me and I found that really valuable, I wouldn't go somewhere that didn't do that in future (not that I'm planning to change! been going to her for 2.5 years now). She asked what I wanted, then described what she'd do and what services would be needed, then costed it out - really helpful...

I'm not in London but have balyage done 2-3 times a year with a trim and toner which costs me £90

And yes always best to have a consultation, you’ll also need a patch test

It varies a lot. I go to a salon in Bedford (about an hour north of London) and paid £200 to have a balayage, cut and blow dry with the salon owner (starting from scratch rather than a top up). The next most expensive salon would have been around £160 and others are nearer £100. I chose the more expensive salon because I loved every single before and after photo on their Instagram whereas the others are a bit hit and miss. I have shoulder length, thinning hair so it was important that I minimised the number of treatments.

I've just spent £400 on a cut and dip lights in a trendy London salon.
I wouldn't say it was worth it and I'll be shopping around for a new salon next time!

£160 here for cut and balayage on nipple length hair.
