Genuinely interested - this is a woman who was on the tv in the late 90s, never been more than a size 6 and rarely leaves Kensington.
I’m 35 years old, two kids, my friends and I shop anywhere from Reiss to Pretty Little Thing. Tbh we shop at the same places as my 40+ year old colleague and my older friends teenage children- there are no longer shops per age only budgets.
I’m baffled as to who on bbc breakfast thought she would resonate with the tv audience - it pretty much sums up why place like marks and Spencer’s can’t shift clothes.
Am I wrong, does she still hold gravitas in the style world?

Good question! I think if it was a case of style advice - like, these colours suit you and this shape or cut is good for your figure then maybe, but no I wouldn't put faith in her for fashion advice (I'm 26)

Iamthewombat · 21/04/2021 09:14

I should start watching BBC Breakfast because I think she’s really good with styling and clothes.

I know that it’s fashionable to poke fun at some of the outfits featured in the Trinny and Susannah books of 15-20 years ago, but the looks were stylish at the time and the messages about proportion, colour and shape were, and remain, bang on. I learned loads from them.

So in answer to your question, yes, she holds gravitas in my style world!

BuiltForComfortNotForSpeed · 21/04/2021 09:15

I haven't seen the programme, but I think with these style/house makeover/cookery programme type things that people are chosen more from an entertainment angle than a practical advice one. I wouldn't wear the things Trinny advises, but I think she can be entertaining and fun to watch.

ZaraW · 21/04/2021 09:22

I read somewhere she is a size 12 not a size 6 there's a big difference.

Pinchoftums · 21/04/2021 09:26

Isn't breakfast TV mainly watched by the over 55s?

What?
tofuschnitzel · 21/04/2021 09:35

I've just checked instagram and Trinny has over 900,000 followers, so yes, I think she is still relevant to some people.

QwertyGirly · 21/04/2021 09:38

She comes up once in a while on my FB feed and I can't stand the women. Her voice, her faffing around, her attitude that 'if I can do it, so can you' which is complete balls. She's had some serious done on her face, and she uses a ton of beauty products, very expensive creams etc. probably has her own personal nutritionist and shops in expensive places. No, I wouldn't take advice from Trinny.

All those women who are proud of 'being 50' but have had multiple surgical tweeks to their faces and bodies and pretend it's all natural. No thank you.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 21/04/2021 09:45

I would think a Myleene Klass or a Vogue Williams would be better/ more relevant. Trinny doesn’t dress like anyone I see in today’s society was my main point

I’ve never seen a fashion item on bbc breakfast in my life! Are you sure it wasn’t a book or tv shoe promo? Bbc breakfast just doesn’t do fashion items (unless it’s suddenly changed a lot this week!)

PickleASturgeon · 21/04/2021 10:01

Not seen the BBC Breakfast thing you're talking about, so can't comment on that. M&S is the same as any other shop to me - like some things, dislike others.

I enjoy watching the Zara 'shop up's on Trinny's YouTube channel. I find her quite harmless and entertaining. In answer to your question, yes, I do want style advice from her.

Purplecatshopaholic · 21/04/2021 10:03

Ooft, can’t stand Mylene or that Vogue woman - I quite like Trinny. That said, I don’t watch daytime tv so don’t know what she’s on. Her Trinny London make up is great, and I generally like her style and approach - I watch her on YouTube now and again.

It was a segment about our change in the clothes we wear thanks to lock down- although imo lockdown only sped up an emerging trend for leisure wear/ sports wear etc. Trinny spoke on how she would wear leisure wear and how to dress relaxed

I'd like to see the return of Trinny and Susannah. They were funny, encouraging and helpful on their TV show. Yes, they might need a little updating behind the scenes on what exactly is the most fashionable stuff right now, but so what? Surely every presenter researches their topic, and there's no obligation for them to be young.

lazylinguist · 21/04/2021 10:19

No I wouldn't, but not because her clothing advice is any less 'relevant' than anyone else's. What puts me off her is the adverts for her make-up which pop up on Instagram. She is not a good advert for her products, as the look she's demonstrating a) isn't very good imo and b) is mainly created by the fact that she's clearly had lots of very obvious work done, rather than whatever make-up she's selling.

Neonprint · 21/04/2021 10:20

Nah I'm fine thanks. Grin

PandoraP · 21/04/2021 10:26

I really like watching her. Bring Trinny and Susannah back.

museumum · 21/04/2021 10:28

I do think she’s valid as a name to commentate on the clothes everyday people wear.
But that’s not the same as actual fashion advice, especially not for anyone under 40.

I do think age has an impact on what people want to wear. It’s not about physical looks/age but about previous experience. I know my feelings about being a student in the 90s affect my feelings about the current fashions around that have 90s influence. My feelings about certain looks won’t be the same as somebody under 30.

doubleshotespresso · 21/04/2021 10:31

I think most of her ideas are fine tbh, may be to an extent true that she rarely leaves Kensington but don't see that's relevant?
I think many of the concepts she and SC used back in the day remain, though the programme and approach did not date well.
If you consider the approach adopted later by Gok Wan as more of a lifestyle/confidence thing as opposed to clothes horse styles it's got its place still, but in a "look how things were" kind of way...
I see no reason why she couldn't be on tv-I'd personally love to see Caryn Franklin back or Muriel Gray

PLEASE NO

I’d sooner listen to Trinny Woodall, who at least knows about fashion, than flinty-eyed dilettante Heat magazine no-marks.

saturning · 21/04/2021 10:39

Yes, i think she has a good eye for detail and is very likeable.

Jeez, give me Trinny over Myleene or Vogue Williams any day of the week.
BreakfastOfWaffles · 21/04/2021 10:41

I think that whilst Trinny is not as relevant as she used to be, her advice on basics still holds true.

And the featured real women of varying shapes, sizes, heights etc... I enjoyed that programme too.
