Hello. I am feeling a bit disconnected from "cool" at the moment so need some help with a present for my goddaughter. She is 12 but quite mature. Likes Doc Martens, dying streaks in her hair, Billie Eilish and spending hours on her phone chatting. She is v artistic. I got her some silver lightning bolt earrings recently which were a hit I think but she can't wear earrings at the moment. Can anyone give me any ideas? Thinking clothes, makeup, jewellery, accessories, etc. Usually spend £20-25. Thank you!

Just noticed I have called her a teenager in the title - just cos I think of her as one. She is definitely in the teenage phase!

Thinking back with my 2 teens - they were both really into Lush at that age. The perfumes are £25 and surprisingly good quality. I think 12 is a great age for first scent. Other than that they both loved Japanese kawaii stationery, funky coloured glitter eyeshadows from Revolution and MAC and graphic t shirts from ASOS.

I assume her school is ok with coloured hair? Not allowed where my DDs went to school.

However, what about a bag? Phone case type one. The tiny ones are very now. Get a copy of an expensive one! Jazzy socks. Lots being worn with sliders. You could get her sliders. Or paper and pastels for art! Club together with parents for a camera. My arty DD loved hers at that age. Obviously £25 isn’t enough but for £75 there are choices.

Oooh thank you - love the Lush idea! And the bag idea! Any particular places good for bags?

If she's edgy / alternative in style I would go for a back pack or bum bag rather than designer knock off stuff. Eastpak do cool bum bags.

Zara and Mango are great places for a teen to start honing her fashion credentials. If you cannot afford the Bottega Venetia patchwork type bag, (Middle first post) it’s not bad to get a cheap one. At least the young person in question knows brands if she’s a DM girl!

More to consider. Urban Outfitters is ok too. They do Eastpak.
