Hair extensions

Has anyone had any experience of hair extensions ?
What type?
How long do they last for?
How do you get on with them?
Do they demand your hair?
Were they expensive?
Would you recommend them?

Just wanted some advice, as I'm thinking of taking the plunge and I don't really know much about them.

Oh God, I had extensions for about six months in 2015 and never again! I had the micro link ones and I must say that the stylist who put mine in was a genius. I massively underestimated the amount of work they were. Drying them literally took me over two hours plus and extra 40 minutes for styling. I was really meticulous about looking after them to stop any matting at the join but I got obsessed with it and couldn’t leave them alone lol. They stayed in really well and I went in a few months after I got them to move the micro links up as my hair grew. I got them taken out as I was moving abroad and didn’t want the hassle of finding a new stylist etc. Mine didn’t harm my hair at all but as I say, I was exceptionally careful in keeping them free from knots and matting, I’ve seen some utter horrors on Insta and Pinterest though! On the plus side I got a lot of compliments on my hair!

Mine were about £350 I think.

I had the micro rings couple of years ago £200 for mine ( I live East Yorkshire & quite cheap here compared to rest of the country ). It cost me a weekly blow dry & move up the rings every few weeks also so £30/£40 ontop for that. Unfortunately when they came out my hair was so thin I couldn't even use my clip in extensions. I now use foxy locks clip ins. They take a lot of care/time & money.

I use Great Lengths/Gold Fever real hair extensions. I have been getting different types of extensions for over 20 years and these are the best in my opinion but you need someone really good putting them in.
I need them as my hair is so very fine now and I look like I have a thick head when they are in. Also people wouldn't guess they are extensions but I can generally spot them a mile off as they are not well put in. I wouldn't get them though if you hair is good and you just want length as even if they don't damage your hair they are not good for it.

Thank you for your replies .
@howsicklyarsekissy how do you get on with your clip ins? I have a full head Remy human hair clip in and I'm worried about it pulling on the hair it's clipped to. I also have a Remy full head human hair halo, but I'm worried that will blow out in windy weather 🤣. So I don't wear them much.
@workshy44 I have heard that great lengths were the best. I want them for fullness, not length. But I know what you mean about being able to spot them.
I'm really unsure about what to do, as my hair has thinned over the last few years and I don't want to make it any worse.

Even though a man complemented me on my hair today, but he was just trying to sell me something.

I would say they are a commitment as you feel bald without them once you start. I don't think they damage your hair if well done. For instance the person who does mine cuts the extension in about 4 so they are put in so finely - people do seem genuinely seem surprised when I tell them. Money isn't an issue for me so pre covid could get them done regularly
They make a massive difference, I don't think I could go back to life without them but if you hair is "ok" I would look at ways to boost the thickness before trying them.

I’ve had beauty works gold for about 3 years now, had beauty works celeb choice before that. I’ve been wearing extensions for 10 years now; started with clip ins and now I have LA weave. Couldn’t be without them. Depends on what shade and type you want initially but you’re looking a few £100. Then maintenance every 5/6 weeks at around £40. It’s worth using better shampoo & conditioner & oil to look after them properly too. My own hair isn’t damaged. I’ve had them out through this lockdown and the first and my own hair is in great condition but I do look after it. My hair is very fine which is why I have them; just to increase the thickness.
