Pigmentation on face

kissmelittleass · 18/04/2021 21:22

Over the last year or more I've developed two brownish marks on face, one on side of chin and recently one just under my eye on cheekbone.
Can I do anything to remove them or is there a cream that helps?

following.
I have various brown (age?) marks. Haven't found the answer yet.

@houselikeashed me and you both ! Here's hoping there's some wise mumsnetters 🤞

Hi,the best thing that has worked for me,in fact the only thing is Dermatica which is a subscription online dermatology thing. Another similar one is Skin and Me which is also highly rated on here.

In the past I tried loads of creams that claim to lighten pigmentation, for example Eucerin but nothing worked! I started in sept and mine has almost completely disappeared,I’m so pleased as it was getting me down. I pay about £22 a month I think.

StellaLeonte · 19/04/2021 12:10

I’m booked to get an Illumi facial next month to sort out pigmentation and a brown spot, I’ve seen good results on other people.

ShirleyPhallus · 19/04/2021 12:14

I’ve used Eucerin and it really helped me with hyper pigmentation/ sun spots

Cowgran · 19/04/2021 12:21

I had some quite severe hyperpigmentation years ago. It still flares up occasionally (too much sun, pregnancy etc) but I have found some things that definitely work.

Firstly I have 10 sessions of alternating pulse light treatment and microdermabrasion. That was about 10 years ago and it helped a lot.

Secondly I saw a dermatologist and started a regime of products including a vitamin A resurfacing cream (I can't currently use this while breastfeeding) and vitamin C plus suncream daily (sun makes the pigmentation even worse. The products I used and swear by were Cosmedix. I am also currently using some dermalogica products and Alpha H Liguid gold. The liguid gold has made a
Massive difference recently.

Tranexemic acid from superdrug has restored my hands which had loads of brown spots

BusterGonad · 19/04/2021 13:48

Sorry to barge in but can anyone help with what colour corrector works for brown pigment, ie green for redness but what shade for brown on very fair skin?

BusterGonad · 19/04/2021 14:15

Just to add foundation/concealer makes the area grey and ashy so I need something to go underneath.

ChubbyLittleManInACampervan · 19/04/2021 14:20

Started a few years ago for me

I use vitamin c cream, and factor 50 face cream every day

It’s made it fade (over months, it’s slow) and it’s still there but not noticeable to others (just noticeable for me , when I peer at my mirror image)

ChubbyLittleManInACampervan · 19/04/2021 14:21

@BusterGonad for me concealer in my own skin tone (not lighter) is best

BusterGonad · 19/04/2021 14:26

Thanks Chubby, I was in the sun for a few hours last week, with spf 50 and reapplied regularly and now I've noticed that my forehead looks like someone's put a hot cup on it. So annoying. I blame the contraceptive pill.

Ponks · 19/04/2021 14:30

I have used Medik8 white balance serum in the past which helped a little, but stupidly decided to try other serums and haven't found anything else to work. So have bought more Medik8 to have another go but interested in the Detmatica / Skin and Me prescription route mentioned above.

kissmelittleass · 19/04/2021 18:17

Thanks everyone will definitely try some of the suggested products, can I ask have any of you got the doctor to check the marks? The mark on my chin is about the size of my small finger nail and the one under my eye is smaller but as the one on my chin has got bigger I'm presuming the other mark will too.
I've never been a sun lover I'm quite pale but as a child I'd say I probably got burnt a few times.

I have two patches the size of my thumb nail, on both cheeks. Appeared when pregnant and 9 years later have started to get worse. Melasma.

On week 5 of Dermatica. Use that daily and Spf50. Not really seen much change yet. I belive it takes a minimum of 3 to 6 months and then longer but im happy to wait as other things have not worked.

Cowgran · 20/04/2021 00:55

@kissmelittleass I get a yearly skin check as live in Australia where we have high rates of skin cancer. So far it's all been fine but if you have any doubt get checked. The sooner these things are picked up the better.

BusterGonad · 20/04/2021 03:36

Mine is definitely melasma, it started with my lips, kind of like my lipcolour was merging outside of my lip line. So before applying lipstick I have to neutralise the area (concealer) around my mouth otherwise I look like its smudged.

CimCardashian · 20/04/2021 23:36

@kissmelittleass with Dermatica you send in photos and the Dr has a look and decides on the correct treatment (I assume the same for skin and me).

My Melasma suddenly appeared when I went on the contraceptive patch. It was all over my cheeks and really bad,I often had people trying to wipe it off thinking I had something on my face!

I tried lots of colour correcting and concealers but in my experience it was so difficult to cover, probably a combination of my skin tone and the contrast between the melasma and non affected skin.

It’s reduced so much that I can go out without foundation now, liberating! I still have rosy cheeks though which is another issue 🤣

Feetupteashot · 23/04/2021 12:51

I had two solar lentigines on my face which I hated. Had them frozen off by dermatologist, didn't really hurt, went a bit crusty then fell over a week, bit pink after but only for a week or so. I have other melasma but those were the most noticeable and people kept telling me I had something on my face 😥 highly recommend

User068 · 23/11/2021 01:01

I had a lot of pigmentation come up on my face during pregancy. Sun exposure doesn't help either. Laser can help remove it but can be very expensive, and not permanent. I have found "Fade Out" - both the day cream and night cream from Boots (about £9 each) AMAZING for getting my skin back on track, and also as a preventative measure to stop new pigmentation from popping up. Good luck!

Cazziebo · 23/11/2021 11:07

I've been using Dermatica for two years now. I think one sunspot has faded slightly but no difference to others. At least they haven't got worse.

I'd like to find a more effective solution.

Lovewins · 23/11/2021 12:48

I had a big sun spot on my face and had tried retinol, and various other serums to fade it. By far the best (but pricey- try to get with a discount code) is ALPHA H midnight recovery liquid gold. It’s pretty much gone now- I started in August. I also religiously use spf 50 every day and a cap if I’m outside exercising. Instead of trying to conceal what’s left I use a tiny bit of fake tan on my face which gives me a nice glow and evens out the remaining patch.

WilliamofBaskerville · 23/11/2021 12:58

Yep, have horrible pigmentation on my cheeks and have tried everything. I have used Dermatica and it worked at first, but they seem to have come back with reinforcements! I have been very careful with the sunscreen so not sure why. I’m afraid I am now going down the online stronger hydroquinone route as I am desperate, I hate looking at my face.

goose1964 · 23/11/2021 13:09

Do they feel velvety to the touch? If so get your blood sugar levels checked as they can cause dark patches if they're too high.

Strudelorcheesecake · 24/11/2021 07:36

Mine faded away almost completely when I started using a vitamin C serum each morning. I used the Beauty Pie one (lovely) and once it ran out have been using the Boots No 7 one (wonderful orange smell but sticky texture).
