Justine Leconte on Cos

Quite an interesting video on Cos by Justine Leconte who is one of my favourite style YouTubers (and a fashion designer and stylist).

I have to admit I didn't realise Cos were the same group as H&M.

Has anyone else noticed a decline in quality since they first started?

I think the design has taken a downturn. I used to buy loads of Cos but haven't been impressed with the range for the last two years. Hence I can't really speak to the quality - I didn't see anything I fancied so didn't order.

My friend has said the same.

I haven't heard of her but she is very comprehensive. I've subscribed to her channel, she seems to have some interesting videos.

I think the quality has always been okay at best. I particularly dislike the crunchy cotton that white shirt is made of, you can hear it in the video, it feels like quilting fabric or like when you leave sheets in the dryer for too long.
I find Cos frustrating, I love offbeat design that is deliberately slightly out of step with trends, but the fit is often really odd.
In my last order the white linen t-shirt I ordered was so off-white it was almost yellow and a pair of shoes smelled very strongly of chemicals.

I started shopping at COS over ten years ago. Still love their cotton sweaters but knitwear not as good as it was. I think it's the best of the high street their t shirts, summer dresses and culottes are still fab.

I've not been buying it long enough to detect a decline but then I came late to Cos because I was too busy taking the piss out of their website. Which in my defence, is pretty funny sometimes but I'm annoyed with myself because I've probably missed them at their peak. Longer standing customers say the quality's gone down but then that's true pretty much everywhere and I still think they're way ahead of anyone else on the high street at a similar (or even higher) price point.

I watched with interest as I haven't been very impressed with their stuff lately, and I've been buying from there for several years. The quality definitely isn't quite what it was, but is still better than most other brands. And while the aesthetic is oversized, as a larger person I find it quite annoying they only go up to size L. I was glad this was addressed in the video.

thedevilinablackdress · 18/04/2021 18:14

I think there's always been a slight hit and miss element. On the whole I think the quality and style is good but, like the parent brand, they produce A Lot of stuff and some duds get through. I wish they (and every other retailer) would scale way back on constantly updating their range. But hey, that's the easy way to get us to buy more more more...

Only buy Cos for their gorgeous box-pleat shirts.

Some of her criticism was petty, like the more hidden seams being less finished. That would be entirely appropriate if the brand wants to produce high end clothing at a cheaper price - saving on seam finishing is to be expected. But her views on the cuts were something to think about. A simple garment needs to be smartly cut, and with Cos I too would question if it is, a lot of the time.

I thought it was interesting, but she could have led with the fact that she'd noticed a quality decline etc instead of throwing it in at the end.

LunaTheCat · 19/04/2021 08:49

Just looked at the video - she is great, very particular I thought and she has a wonderful figure which meant I thought she could be particular.
I like cos - I think not quite as good as it was a few years ago but still the best quality for the High Street.
I am going to follow her - I loved the French accent!

EmmaStone · 19/04/2021 08:55

The key thing about Cos for me is that they use natural fabrics, lots of cotton and silk. They're also quite grown up amidst a sea of teen stores. I've not particularly seen a change in quality, and would still go there first for an interesting dress or decent quality top.
