Hair Dilemma - need help (with pics)

I am lost about what to do with my hair, and hoping for help/inspiration.

I have waist-length coloured hair. Natural colour is light/med brown. Now at 54 the greys are coming through. I’ve had a dark brown perm colour on for the past few years. After first lockdown the grey roots looked stark, so hairdresser did a colour remove (twice) and put in a semi in a lighter brown.

She recommended not to go any lighter. The semi did not cover the greys very well, and it looked too warm to me and a bit meh. I left very disappointed.
This was mid Dec. I am booked in for next week, and really not sure where I am going.
I thought I was ready for grey - but not sure since I was so underwhelmed by my last salon visit.
Should I persevere - now or never to go grey?
Give up - I am too young for grey!
Go back to perm colour but in a lighter/cooler shade - Semi will never cover grey and it will always look bad to try? And the grey roots won’t look as bad with a lighter/cooler grey?
I am driving myself crazy - please lovely mumsnetters give me some impartial, honest advice!

Other than the fact that you're much slimmer than me, they could be my photos.

I have tried all sorts, but my hair just goes orange/brassy really quickly. My hair dresser was at her wits end with it (and we gave up about a year before lockdown) Having had about 2 years of not colouring it, I'm undecided what to do now. I'm not happy how it is.

Sorry, not much help, but some solidarity!!

Thank you for the solidarity! I will continue to say 'cool brown' but I don't know if it is possible?
