A nice brown hair colour - why is it so hard to achieve?!

I have naturally brown hair but whenever I get my roots done they seem to 'glow' quite red/auburn especially in the sun. I feel like no matter how much I explain what I want I just don't quite get it. All I want is a nice mid or light brown colour and maybe a few highlights near my face but I just don't even seem to get near the light brown colour as it always looks so warm!

Are there any hairdressers on here that could give me that magic answer for what I need to ask for next time I go?

Ps I know that my base colour is 6. I've had all sorts recommended from a 6.3 (for a rich colour) and 6.1 which I think is more ash.

Which developer do you use @hairobsessed123?

I've been looking at the glow range. I never get a colour I like! Am a bit nervous about branching out into more professional dyes at home though

@IndecentFeminist
I used the 3.75% 12.5 it’s the lowest one they do ! I use this one because I don’t want huge lift or much change and i applied it on natural roots but gingery /brown ends it’s a violet/blue tone the L18 so it matched all my hair by toning out the warm ends if that makes sense ? And it blends a small percentage of grey sparkles as well x

My natural colour was wild rodent/light, dingy brown.
My colours are cool
I am 60 and about 30% grey - very much at the front.
I have no idea what my hairdresser uses but she puts two colours through the foils (2 different blondes) and a brown tint between the foils. It comes out a light ashy brown. She's bloody marvellous.
