Has anyone used a split end trimmer gadget?

How does it work? DD has a lot of them but doesn't want to cut much off the length of her hair.

They pass the hair over a roller and a blade trims off the mm that stick up due to being split. They take no real length off just the beoken hair. It smooths the hair but also stops split ends traveling up the hair. Its super effective on fine straight hair - less so on curly hair.
I was trained to do it with scissors by curling hair over you hand and snipping any strays a split ender is just more efficent and anyone can use on.

Thanks - I got a mini version. Really for my daughter who has very long straight hair and it needs a cut. Will have to report back
