Anyone ditched makeup for good and feel better for it?

As the title says really.. I'm 35 and worn makeup everyday since I was in my teens. Not heavy, just brows (as they're not existent but annoyingly I have dark brown hair so looks ridiculous on me), maybe some eyeliner and mascara. No foundation maybe a tiny bit of BB cream.

I'm trialling wearing no makeup just brows... one one hand I look younger, on the other I look like Matt Lucas.

No offence to Matt Lucas.

I barely wear it now working from home. I'll put a little on for Teams meetings but don't miss it too much.

I’m 61. I only ever wore makeup for evenings and special occasions. Now use tinted lip balm and (toe) nail varnish.

I feel better for it because I hated the feel of it and it made my eyes itch. I am otherwise well groomed and attract a reasonable amount of positive attention and compliments for my age.

Caveat: if you dye your hair you may have to colour your face to match.

My hair is naturally dark brown. Unfortunately my eyebrows aren't. I do dye them at home but never seems to last very well.

I tried it for 4 months during lockdown. My skin was horrendous Hmm really spotty and unpredictable. I felt way worse.

I am on the verge of doing this. I don't miss make up! Can't remember the last time I wore it. I think I look great actually! I have blonde brows and eyelashes, so yes, it could go a bit Matt Lucas, (lovely as he is, his isn't a look I am seeking to emulate). But I don't actually think it's too bad. I haven't gone out for dinner or anything yet, so maybe that will be the test. I still have a small make up bag. I am not ready to bin it yet! But maybe.

I'm 37.

I pretty much ditched it in lockdown. I'm not swearing I'll never go back at all but I feel comfortable with how I look without it now.

Anything I do use will have to be minimal because I love those few extra minutes in the morning and I've realised how much used to resent the time it took.

If face masks are ever consigned to history I might take up lipstick again because it's quick and I can see it makes a difference. The rest? Not so much.

And I'll tell you what else: my skin's in much better condition than it was a year ago.

thewinehasgonetomyhead · 17/04/2021 19:10

@PollyThePony is your hair fair to match your brows and lashes?

Yes, I'm naturally medium/dark blonde and also have bleached hair. I'm planning on growing out the bleach as well though.

I stopped bothering, thanks to lockdown and the need to wear a mask. I never wore that much but it had slowly been getting heavier and my skin wasn't happy. Vicious circle. Much better now. I prefer the look of face skin now. I'm lucky in that my hair, eyebrows and lashes are black.

quarentini · 17/04/2021 19:59

Since lockdown I've only wore mascara.
I'm not planning on doing a full face till I'm going out out

WingBingo · 17/04/2021 20:27

I’ve stopped wearing foundation. My skin is so much better.

Just eyeshadow, mascara and a little brow pencil when I’m in the office.

I wear a little- eyeliner and lipstick. Without it I'm colourless- no features at all!

I've found that all the products just feed a cycle of product use. I stopped using cleanser, moisturiser etc. Really didn't miss any of it. When I restarted, after using moisturiser in the morning I was desperate to cleanse in the evening. It's like any dirt in the air sticks to the makeup/moisturiser.

It's the same with hair care. Use product and you need to wash it out, that strips the hair so you add more product- vicious circle. I've reduced my hair washing so much by just not using those products. A gentle wash lasts ages, no conditioner or styler needed.
