Do you ever actually like your hair after you have been to the hairdresser?

I can only think of one time I liked it about thirty years ago! I went from really long to a mid-length layered style and everybody liked it including me.

I had my hair cut and coloured yesterday. I was so looking forward to it after six months and it’s ok but a bit yellow and stripy. I wanted to love it but never do.

Btw I have tried different styles and colours and different salons over the years and I still feel the same.

Maybe if you get the cut and colour done separately you'll have a better idea of which it is that you don't like.

I get a cut with every second colour as I'm trying to grow my hair out. I never like my hair immediately after a cut. I find it takes a few weeks to settle. My colour and blow dry look better on the visits where I haven't been due a cut.

No. I have fine hair and by the time they have faffed around blow drying my hair in sections it is flat and flyaway.

I went this week as I needed it cutting, but to be honest I wanted to be in and out as quickly as possible, but she was so slow and was wittering on behind a mask (I couldn't hear) to keep me there for the hour and justify the fee.

My ideal hairdresser at the moment would be one operating from an open-sided marquee attached to an outdoor coffee-shop or pub where you took a numbered ticket on entry then wandered over when it was your turn. No washing, just spray with water and wet cut and provide a hairdryer and mirror for a quick self-dry & style afterwards.
Would take about 10 mins and should be cheap. But then I'd probably do it every 3-4 weeks rather than 6-8!

You’re being ripped off then, Yerawizard! Grin
There are more expensive hairdressers in my area, but mine does an excellent cut. He doesn’t see the need to charge more - he already owns two salons here, plus a couple of villas in Florida, so is hardly short of cash.

romdowa · 16/04/2021 12:04

I purposely get my hair cut shorter than I like so it lasts longer 😂😂 my hair grows so fast that in 2/3 weeks it is at the length that I like.

Fortherosesjoni70 · 16/04/2021 12:15

My hairdresser does a fab job but i just hate going and I can never recreate it either.

Mumdiva99 · 16/04/2021 12:16

I usually get a wet cut - which I am usually happy with.

This week I had a blow dry (no straighteners so it was a bit puffy) - I swished through the next 2 days LOVING IT!!! (Now its back to curly no dry and I still love it as more me.) If you aren't happy change your hair dresser.

WhereAreWeNow · 16/04/2021 12:18

I do since I asked my hairdresser (who comes to my house) to not bother blow drying it. I used to hate how bouffy and "done" my hair used to look after having it cut. Now I let it dry naturally it's much better.

Fluffbutt · 16/04/2021 13:51

I like the cut and colour but often the styling is a bit flat. After I’ve washed and styled it myself I’m happy.

theDudesmummy · 16/04/2021 13:56

Never ever like the way they blowdry it, always either too flat or too puffy.but have had some great cuts, which I appreciated after I had dried it myself. Colour, had such a spectacular fail (I said nice rich brown and they made it flat black) that I never had it coloured again.

Signalbox · 16/04/2021 13:59

I never like mine. I always take a hat in case I meet anyone on the way home.

SageRosemary · 16/04/2021 15:32

Well, I'm thrilled with my latest haircut!. The hairdressers around here are still closed. I cut my own hair myself about 5 weeks ago into a blunt cut bob. In the meantime, I invested in a thinning scissors and have just cut it into a more graduated bob style. Not sure if I'me ever going back to the hairdressers now. I do have the sort of hair which is easy to blow-dry at home, naturally straight-ish and I prefer my bouncy blow-dry to the hairdresser's dead flat straight hair even though I can't quite achieve the very shiny glossy finish at home.

I did get to practice on my husband, the dog, my mother - and my DC when they were little! DC have asked me to do theirs at the weekend.

HousewifeNumber10 · 16/04/2021 15:36

I had mine highlighted yesterday and it feels too light! But saying that within a few weeks when my roots come through it looks better.
I did want it a bit darker this time though

NecklessMumster · 16/04/2021 15:42

Not really, they always bouffe it up too much. I always think 'why do this, yours isn't like that'. Its partly my fault as I don't really know what I want and don't soeak hairdresser language. And every couple of years I change hairdresser when I can't stand it but been though most in my town now! Since lockdown I've realised that my hair looks much better long, and it also goes into waves by itself! I wish I'd left it before. I'm also growing my grey out. Having said that I went to hairdressers this week and quite liked the trim but I might space visits out for longer.

LeonardLikesThisPost · 16/04/2021 15:50

I'm smiling ruefully at "only" once every 2 months. I was last in a hairdresser in July 2019 🤭

I do like my hair when it's been done, and I can never, ever make it look that nice myself, but I really hate the hairdresser experience. I don't much like being touched and I hate having to make awkward conversation.

I tend to go a year or two trimming it myself until I get really sick of it, Google a bunch of hairstyles and bite the bullet and go.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 16/04/2021 16:21

I love my cut every time, but feel like he dries it a bit too “sleek”. I generally wash it when I get home and dry it myself.

Spodge · 16/04/2021 17:31

@EventuallyDistracted

I don't get mine coloured but I don't really feel like me till I've rewashed it. Somehow the way they dry it is never right.
They never dry mine right, either.
Oblomov21 · 16/04/2021 17:34

Yes. Practically Every time. Once or twice I wasn't quite sure.

dudsville · 16/04/2021 17:37

I once had a salon that was amazing. I then lost my income and couldn't afford them. When I got back on my feet they were gone. That was 15-20 years ago. Ever since then I've been disappointed so 3 years ago I finally bit the bullet and started doing it myself. I now love it every time and the money I save goes into fabulous hair products!

CandleWick4 · 16/04/2021 17:43

You need a new hairdresser. I recently moved and since I’ve been going I’ve loved my hair after every visit. They do my colour exactly as I ask, the cut as I like and the blow dry is lovely. If you aren’t happy move!

chiefbrain · 16/04/2021 18:03

Always love my hair when my hairdresser has done it. She is great at advising what suits and will tell me if she doesn't think it will work. My last haircut was 11 Dec and her cut was so good (quite short pixie crop) that it has grown into a chin length Bob without looking bad at all. She's a genius

TableNiner · 16/04/2021 19:47

I’m not a fan of going to the hairdressers. I think its expectation/hope v reality. After all it’s my same old face and hair type - there’s a limit to what they can achieve.

It’s too flat and I can never work out what it’s actually going to look/be like once it’s washed by me.

Waveafterwaveslowlydrifting · 16/04/2021 19:50

I'm very fussy about my hair so have ditched the dye altogether. Letting the grey grow out. No more anxiety about finding greys the week after an expensive colour appointment

MrsMaizel · 16/04/2021 20:03

This

Do you ever actually like your hair after you have been to the hairdresser?
Alsohuman · 16/04/2021 21:54

Always. I don’t have colour and my hairdresser is an insanely good cutter. I went on Wednesday and I felt like a million dollars when I came out.

QueenPaw · 16/04/2021 21:56

Never. I have curly hair and it goes into sort of curl shock and takes a while to look decent
Plus hairdressers usually can't dry it/style it so I often leave with it wet
