Jeans for skinny 14yo boy

Where do you buy your jeans for your very skinny 14yo son??

I though Zara would be easy, as his age 13/14 jeans from there fit him, but are getting worn out - but for some reason the new ones that got delivered today are about 4 inches shorter, and finish half way up his calf Hmm

Uniqlo boys jeans in the largest size are too small, but the smallest men's size are waaaay too big.

Arghh! Please help, I'm getting very fed up of buying stuff and having to send it all straight back!

My skinny 14yo is into chinos at the moment and they are much easier to buy because they don't need to fit so neatly. Would he go for that? They have nice ones in Next in the kids' range and they all have waist elastic and some colours come in slim fit.

H&M used to be one of the few places that caters for in-between aged boys, especially if they are skinny. I was also pleasantly surprised that Primark had a good range of skinny jeans and chinos in XS mens' size that worked for DS when he was that age.

Iknowtheanswer · 15/04/2021 16:07

I have a skinny tall 14 year and he always wore Zara until this year. He grew out of his Next 14 extra long recently.

River Island is your answer. Adult prices, but they do different waist and legs.

DS currently wearing 26 waist, 34 leg, and fir perfectly.

Iknowtheanswer · 15/04/2021 16:08

Sorry, meant to say that I've been through this before with DS1, and honestly can't beat River Island's choice of sizing.

WhatHaveIFound · 15/04/2021 16:19

My skinny 16 year old always wears H&M jeans. They're the only ones that will fit his 26in waist.

Triffid1 · 15/04/2021 16:22

I'm not sure about this age group, but for younger kids M&S has always been skewed towards the skinner side I've found.

Gap is good but you do have to review the size charts and work it out for your child specifically as their sizing is totally counter-intuitive (and appears to be weirdly different for top and bottom - jeans are perfect but same size t-shirt is BILLOWING for younger DS). eg, from memory, Zara size 11 is Gap size 14 or something.

My 14 yo has long lanky legs and found Marks and Sparks men’s range online was great as can put in waist and leg size - plus reasonably priced

fabricstash · 15/04/2021 16:31

He 26/28 (can’t quite remember) waist and 34 legs

EvilOnion · 15/04/2021 16:33

G star Raw and Jack and Jones are quite small on the sizing, my 14yo is 26 waist/34 leg but manages a 28 with belt from these.

Miseryisabutterfly · 15/04/2021 17:01

I would order a couple more pairs from Zara to try. They are all over the place. My very tall 7 year old (who usually takes size 11) can be a 9 in some of their skinny jeans and an 11-12 in others.

RockaLock · 15/04/2021 17:45

Thank you all so much for all the suggestions! I don't know why more shops don't cater for the skinny teenager, though - there are clearly a lot of them around...

There are lots of good ideas there, so I will have look at all of them. Time to get my tape measure out!

Hi I had this issue with my DS and ended up getting some acceptable jeans from ASOS. He needs a 24 waist 34 leg which doesn’t appear to exist. Anywhere. So best option is 26 waist. ASOS website let’s you search by size. Got him two pairs one grey and one dark wash and he wears both so success! Also have some from H&M which were v hard to find (very little stock for age 14 and up in local store) which look very similar to me but do not get worn... have also been recommended next as well so will try that. Good luck!

Kellen · 15/04/2021 18:26

Levis 512 are good for my v tall and v v skinny 14 year old, he’s about 5 ft 8 and the 16 years are long enough. Good luck!

CustardLovingPooPooHead · 15/04/2021 18:31

I've also started buying Levi's for my son. I bought some in the John Lewis sale and have never looked back! He's nearly 13 and 510s in age 14 fit him perfectly (ie size up a year).

They're not cheap but I've never paid full price - I've always managed to find them online on sale.

RockaLock · 15/04/2021 18:54

Thank you all.

It's so difficult getting jeans for DS - even ones with adjustable waists, we end up with so much excess material around his bum that it just looks silly.

Luckily he doesn't care too much about clothes, but obviously he doesn't want to look ridiculous!

I think I might drag him to the shops this weekend, if I'm not feeling too lousy (1st covid vaccine for me tomorrow!) - he will hate it, and I will hate it, but it might just be easier in the long run than ordering online. Although our local shopping centre is dire, we do have most of the brands mentioned, so hopefully we'll find something.

H&M or cargo shorts all year round.
My 14yr old is basically a baby giraffe and I hate buying trousers for him. He's too skinny and too tall.
