Free People, do you like it?

Just discovered this brand and have bought a few nice bits on e-bay (as it’s outside my price range)

It seems to be made for California teens (with a healthy budget Grin) but somehow it speaks to this middle aged Dorset lady that I am Wink

It reminds me a bit of Anthropologie a few years back , are there any other similar brands out there?

Does anyone else love their style?

I love free people, people tree is also similar but not quiiite as California.

BListOrMaybeEvenZList · 15/04/2021 14:32

Yes, I love it too! Whenever I go to the states I go to Plato's Closet, which is a chain of consignment stores, and pick up loads of Free People clothes. It's an Anthropologie brand.

HelloChompy · 15/04/2021 15:29

Free people came up as an advert for me. There were a few pieces I really liked the look of but then I looked at the reviews on trust pilot and was totally put off Confused

Oh how exciting, especially in covid times the idea of travelling (travelling!) to America and shopping (in a real shop!) sounds like a dream Smile

I loved a bit of Free people around 6/7 years ago when I could afford it. All the items I bought were great quality and still look as good as new now. What’s it like now? What do the reviews say?

HelloChompy · 15/04/2021 21:40

@Seapink2 a lot of the reviews relate to poor customer service, missing parcels, wrong items sent and problems obtaining refunds etc

Handsnotwands · 15/04/2021 22:12

Love the aesthetic. Loathe the quality (and the price)

EllaPaella · 15/04/2021 23:17

Love the look of it all but the stuff I have ordered in the past has been massively over sized and very poor quality for the price.

I'm on the way to 60, I love free people, lovely dresses etc, got a wonderful big floppy hat last year, several summer dresses, a lovely fringed suede shirt, a couple of leather jackets and some wedge sandals.

was wearing some ripped jeans, dkny T, a fringed suede black jacket and stella mcartney shades and got told by a table of 'young women' I looked really 'cool' Grin

Nitgel · 15/04/2021 23:22

I quite like it and buy lots. It's part of anthropologie/urban outfitters. The sale section is worth keeping an eye on. Its madly overpriced

The have opened another shop in regent st and I'm going to check it out tomorrow.

ChubbyLittleManInACampervan · 16/04/2021 07:39

Oh! Real life shops (dream...)

I bought a lovely FP cashmere jumpers and cotton cardigan on EBay and very pleased with them

Am eying up some trousers

Have you looked at American Vintage? It’s got a similar relaxed vibe, less prints/logos and more plain colours though - but it’s better quality IMO.

Fortherosesjoni70 · 16/04/2021 12:06

Very shit materials and poorly made for the price imo.

Not sure if they’re still doing them as part of the annual retail ranges, but the Free People thermal Henley tops with feature cuffs are a staple for me. I must own half a dozen. So stretchy, versatile and flattering, such great neutral colourways. I collected them mainly on eBay, over time. Some new, some not. Different necklines, mainly boatneck (sexy but not revealing).

They wear very well- actually look better over time. Sizing can be a bit hit & miss. I’m a 12 top, 14 hip and take a medium most of the time. But being a casual item, I can make them work even if they are a bit tight or oversized. Been wearing them 20 years already, I’m 50, and I see them staying with me forever! Always on the lookout for more.

Free people shoes and jewellery can be great too. And their plaid/flannel shirts are cool too. Everything else requires one to be a 20yo, slim boho model. Although lord knows how they’d afford a string bikini top, leather embellished jeans shorts and a duster length silk kimono with cowboy boots totalling £1000+

80sEyeShadow · 17/04/2021 10:17

I'm middle aged, I love a lot of FP styles and I do buy from them a bit. Some of the garments I own are excellent quality, others are terrible. Their jersey fabrics can be too thin.

As PPs have said, their sizing is huge and they are part of the same group as Anthropologie and Urban Outfitters.

I've tried to find out FP's ethical credentials as I know that there was a scandal recently around UO's ethics.

Nitgel · 18/04/2021 09:11

I wasnt that impressed with the shop. Not enough staple stick like the Henleys or t shirts. I think they could cram alot more in personally.

ChubbyLittleManInACampervan · 19/04/2021 13:43

That’s a shame

Anthro always stock their stores really well IMO

I ordered some FP trousers, will post on here how I get on Grin
