I love this bag but it doesn’t fit a laptop. There’s a fair few laptop bags but I like this one in particular. If anyone knows where there’ll be a similar one it’ll be you lovely lot. Hoping there maybe one similar that’d fit a laptop 🤞🏼

I second Knomo but some are pricey. There is this John Lewis bag, one of the reviews said they could get a laptop in it

Have a look at this selection, there are some backpacks too.

OP, I have a similar bag that I got a couple of year ago from River Island, can't find it on their website anymore but worth keeping an eye out. I commute via two trains and the Tube for over two hours and it's been fine. However, nearly everyone I work with has a backpack/rucksack even the most senior people. And tbh it makes sense when you add laptop charger, phone and charger, wallet, work passes, water bottle, snack and often comfy shoes so you can run for the train!!

Tk maxx have great deals on handbags.
I would endorse a stylish backpack as a good option. Is there anyone your daughter can speak to to find out likely (max) laptop size?

Astrid01 · 14/04/2021 23:22

Could you afford to buy her one of the cheaper bags like an Amazon one whilst she is settling in and working out what she wants/needs in a bag for commuting? Then you could look at a more expensive option once you have decided.
Laptops aren't heavy but all the other things you need to carry are and often bulky

Going against the grain here - I really don't like backpacks. They're awful on public transport - I'm fed up of being smacked in the face with them by people who mindlessly swing around. I also think they must be a pick pockets dream on crowded public transport. I got a fabulous across the body bag from TK Maxx that holds a laptop and had plenty of separate pockets to hold wallet, etc. I guess it depends on your DDs commute to decide on the best bag. (I've also got big boobs so a backpack looks dreadful on me!).

Maybe have a look at men's laptop bags - they're usually much better!

Thank you everyone. We are going to look at cool/chic backpacks once she’s started as per your recommendations. She can use the one she currently has for 6th form. It’s absolutely fine. It’s in good condition and roomy. It’ll certainly do for the time being. That’ll give her chance to see what she actually needs to put in it and what everyone else has.

Although worth seeing what her workplace say. At my last workplace they gave us all £40 to spend on a laptop bag/rucksack of our own choosing.

I bought my daughter this for college - and ended up getting one for myself too. Excellent smart backpack - plenty of space for laptop and charger etc - and under £30!

I have had 2 knomo lap top bags from tkmaxx recently for DD and myself - both were well under £100 and great quality
Some great bargains n eBay too if you don’t mind lightly used

NotMeNoNo · 15/04/2021 14:54

I would wait until she has the laptop and see what size it is and what bag the company provide. A small neat nylon laptop sleeve and a separate handbag is sometimes easier to manage than one giant tote bag with computer shoes, water bottle, lunch etc. Also the laptop should be in a padded secure section.

I can't see an 18 year old with an expensive City-type leather work bag unless she's actually in the City.
TK Maxx usually have a few good laptop bags, I got a Paul Costelloe one there I keep for "smart" meetings when we used to have them.

Mia Tiu do a back pack type one
They are brilliant bags as there is a proper space for everything
If you go online each back has a video tour and there customer service is fabulous and very helpful
