Best shampoo and conditioner bars

Anyone recommend any?

I’m so tempted by the rowdy kind ones but they are quite expensive and I don’t know anyone who actually uses them

I love The Solid Bar company. They are quite expensive but last ages and work really well if you live in a hard water area. The cheaper bars don't work, or you have to rinse with apple vinegar blah blah which is just annoying. I had just about given up on shampoo bars when I saw Solid Bar recommended on here. I wouldn't use anything else now. I promise I don't work for them Smile

Bath Bubble and Beyond Shampoo and Conditioner Bar Set (I Should Cocoa) www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08586DK8J/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_fabc_82SX3D4JTBYS0ENAVFQR?psc=1P&_encoding=UTF8&tag=mumsnetforu03-21

Amazing value, both work brilliantly.

I have long, wavy, very very thick hair. User bar shampoo for years, one of those lasts me about months washing twice a week. I despaired of finding a decent solid conditioner and used a lot of liquid stuff but this is the nuts. Make sure you brush your hair well first and it leaves it silky, smooth, tangle-free and shiny. I’m never going back!

Ethique works well for me

WithASpider · 14/04/2021 16:44

Grüum shampoo and conditioner bars are amazing.

ElderMillennial · 14/04/2021 16:46

Ethique are good but they are the only ones I've tried

Soubriquet · 14/04/2021 16:46

Thanks all. Will go and investigate

I really didn’t get on with gruum. But it depends on what your hair like.

PollyThePony · 14/04/2021 19:34

I also like Grüum. Really don't like the Lush ones.

Another vote for Ethique shampoo bars (esp for hard water, doesn't leave a film or scum), but the conditioner didn't work for me

lookdeepintotheparka · 14/04/2021 21:11

Gruum are good as are the Ethique ones I've tried (the face cleansing bars are excellent too!)

However they all leave a film on my hair if I use them every day so I tend to alternate with another shampoo. I still use less plastic that way.

RockaLock · 14/04/2021 22:01

I've never found a conditioner bar that I've got with, so I still use a conventional conditioner.

At the moment I'm using a Soho Soap shampoo bar, which I really like.

Gruum were OK, but I haven't repurchased, as the ones I tried weren't great for my dry scalp, although they did leave my hair looking and feeling nice.

Ethique was good, but I've only used the one for sensitive/dry scalps, and that one did smell pretty revolting.

PollyThePony · 14/04/2021 22:02

I know someone who uses a bar shampoo and then puts olive oil on the ends of her hair instead of conditioner! Haven't tried it myself, but maybe worth a go?

Soubriquet · 15/04/2021 08:14

I currently use the big bottles of bed head as it’s the only shampoo that makes my hair feel soft

Karmakamelion · 16/04/2021 00:08

Gruum for coloured hair bar actually stripped my dye from my hair

dotdashdashdash · 16/04/2021 10:13

I have really fine and limp hair and cannot find solid conditioner that works on my hair so I've compromised and I refill a large bottle at the local zero waste shop.

For shampoo I tend to use the lush bars, because they are easy for me to get hold of - the seasalt one works well for my hair type.

Soubriquet · 16/04/2021 11:46

I think I might splurge and try the rowdy kind...they are on the pricier end and are aimed at children but they do seem to have the best reviews

I just bought a new Garnier one to try out. Under £4 in Superdrug at the moment.

DuchessSilver · 16/04/2021 16:12

Another vote for ethique shampoo bars, but I like the lush ones too.
I couldn't get on with the lush jungle conditioner bar, their American dream one is a bit better as it sort of lathers. Not tried the ethique one yet.

I think there are some really "natural" shampoo bars that are free of SLS, parabens etc that have a transition period where your hair is super greasy and waxy. Whereas lush and ethique are really similar to normal shampoos, but solid.

itsnotgolf · 16/04/2021 16:16

I love love love Gruum shampoo and conditioner bars! I never want to use anything else on my hair.

nordica · 16/04/2021 17:56

I've tried lots and the Eco Living shampoo bars are my absolute favourite. My hair is short and straight, and I don't even need a conditioner with them at all.
