Help! I've broken my nail and can't cut it as it's where the nail is attached. Sorry for the badly edited photo! Any ideas on how to protect it so it it can grow out? I have seche vita but it has gone very gloopy.

Mumsnetters I need you!

id cover it with clear nail varnish (or any colour if you dont have clear) until it grows enough you can cut it

Superglue and a bit of teabag will hold it for a while. Longer term I'd get UV gel overlays for a few weeks, until it's grown out enough to cut it below the tear, and get them to put a bit of silk over the tear to strengthen it. Don't go to a place that uses a Dremel-type e-file unless you plan to keep on getting overlays. You only need to have your cuticles pushed back and the nail surface roughed up a bit with a file before gels and Dremels can cause damage.

I’m a nail tech. A little bit of kitchen roll glued on. You can do it a couple of times to layer it. Then buff it smooth and cover with clear polish. Don’t allow the nail to get too long to minimise it ripping off.

Thank you both! I'm off to tear up a teabag. Grin

Barney should I use super glue or something else?

My nail tech fixes these with a tiny patch of silk before buffing and painting with gel

My thumbs are notorious for this!
Sadly, I have never had much luck with glue and loo roll or teabags.
I just cut as short as it will go and wait unfortunately ly

Binglebong · 13/04/2021 21:31

Well my thumb now looks very weird but fingers crossed it will hold. And I'm used to strange looks!

If I get this for the future can I just use seche Vite or do I need something special?
