Hair :( can I dye after toner? Help!

Toner over bright (previously) lightened blonde hair, made it a bit purple /patchy in places. Aimed for an ash blonde, it’s all shades of colours now, I can’t go outside.
I have a ‘natural ash blonde’ 8.01 dye, can I put that on? Same day, the toner was applied this morning.
Or should I just wash my hair a few times this evening & apply dye tomorrow?

What toner did you use? I would wash it a few times before doing anything else

A salon toner. I’ve washed it a few times now & it’s marginally better.
I may still apply the dye tomorrow (box dye) as it’s permanent and might be a bit darker, my hair needs to be that bit darker I just hope it doesn’t go green!!

It just sounds like you have overtoned which is easily done.
Have you tried washing with fairy liquid? When I did this recently I washed about 3 times with fairy and it definitely helped, also dandruff shampoo helps.

What box dye do you have? The problem is that it might (will) have a lift in it so will lighten your already lightened but also any roots, unhiglighted etc bits too, which could leave you in a worse state.
Is it a permanent or semi? It could also damage your hair as box dyes don't usually state the level of developer in them.

I have overtoned my hair lots of times and it always settles down after a few washes no matter how bad you think it looks.
I personally wouldn't put the box dye on.

Yes, was also going to suggest Head & Shoulders! Definitely helps to get the colour out. I wouldn't put a dye over it - unless you're going to go a good few shades darker, which doesn't sound like that's what you want?

So, I’m sat here with it on!
It’s knight & Wilson pureplex natural ash blonde. I just had to do it! I thought you know what I may as well go for it, my hair has been washed & conditioned well, so if it’s going to be a disaster- it can’t be too much of one as my hair has been conditioned before hand & I’m sure I read once that acts as a barrier to dyes? If it turns out shit, I’m going to have the cleanest hair on the planet over the next few days!
Actually looking at it, it looks well, a great colour (deceivingly warm) but that’s the dye, rub it off & yep, the blonde is still there, which is ok.
I am going to let my natural colour come through after this. I invest way too much thought (and money) into my hair and it really brings my mood down if it’s not right.

Oooo hair dye in real time, can we see photos???

For what it’s worth, the purple tint would have washed out with normal shampoo but hey ho

mooonstone · 13/04/2021 19:33

Hope it looks stunning after

Fruityfriday · 13/04/2021 19:34

Waiting for pics

CoffeeandCakeEqualsLove · 13/04/2021 19:36

I 100% know that feeling and have been there before, so I get it!

harryandmarv · 13/04/2021 20:31

Ok, so, OMG!
It’s loads better! The hair dye itself is bloody amazing.
The colour? An ashy very light brown/blonde. If I’m picky, yes there’s a slight green hue, but I kind of expected that.
Will try to get photos up later if I can.
It’s not a ‘oh my god, I just love your hair colour’ kind of colour Grin
It’s pretty understated, non-descriptive even but it suits me better than what it was & I can live with it for now! Glad I took the plunge.

Yessss! Glad to hear that it looks good!

I want to see the transformationGrin I’m getting mine done tomorrow and can’t wait to have fresh hair again!

I use the knight and Wilson 10.21. It IS super ashy at first, will settle in a couple washes. I was going to order the 8.01 but couldn't decide if it would be too dark/warm.
