Do quality leggings exist?

Is it possible to buy a pair that won't bobble or fall apart and lose shape without having to spend a fortune?

I've been shopping around and they're like £30 a pair! I don't mind investing but are they actually any better?

I just want simple, plain black leggings. Ideally breathable (cotton/bamboo). I also need size tall, which is a pain.

I really like the high waist M&S leggings for a tenner, but the fabric quality is dire and all three pairs have got holes in them within a month.

Any other suggestions or ones to avoid?

Try Uniqlo Airism leggings, I have 2 pairs and they are incredibly comfortable.

ShirleyPhallus · 12/04/2021 10:51

I know it’s not what you want to hear but IMO the best leggings are the sports type ones which are much thicker and have lots of Lycra in

The sweaty Betty yoga leggings are very expensive but really durable, fit well and last ages. Not what you want to hear I know!

PollyThePony · 12/04/2021 10:54

Like a pp said, I think the high quality leggings tend to be polyester! I hate wearing polyester, so I just don't really wear leggings any more. I've had bamboo leggings from Thought which died a death in quite a short space of time. Ditto cotton ones from M&S and sports shops. I have one pair which I sort of need for my spin bike, but other than that, I don't wear them now. I also don't really wear tights, but if you don't mind tights material, you could try Snag footless tights? Or 500 denier tights, which I think are a bit like leggings with feet.

Oooh didn't know they did leggings. I think the leg length might be an issue for me.

I like the Black Treggings from M&Co, I think they are around £20 per pair full price but they very often do 25% off

They are nice and thick and don’t bobble

floofycroissant · 12/04/2021 11:03

Thanks Polly Thought were on my list, so you've saved me that disappointment!

Yes I know sports are the best, currently sat in some now... I might have to take a look a SB.

Footless tights are an option I'd not considered. I just worry I'll get a cankle muffin top (sp muffin bottom?!) Grin

M&S quality has definitely gone down on their leggings tall teen DD had the high waisted ones & they lasted for ages, got her some new ones mid January and they have lasted 2 months.
Just got a two pair pack from Tesco so hoping they fair better but for only £10 I won’t mind if they only last a couple of months.

ornge · 12/04/2021 11:20

I work for Sweaty Betty so have lots of their leggings and may be biased but they are all very durable. The super sculpt leggings are very comfy and made from recycled material but are expensive at full price.

I am 6ft and but the regular length which is very good for me.

SwimBaby · 12/04/2021 12:12

I got some Lipsy ones from Next and they’ve been amazing. I’ve worn them at least once a week for about 6 months and they still look great.

floofycroissant · 12/04/2021 12:12

I think the side panel on the SB Super Sculpt look like sports leggings, I'm really looking for some I can Chuck on under a dress

Are ruched hem ones any good? They look a bit less sporty imo

Mint Velvet high waisted ones have been good for me

Extrapepperoni · 12/04/2021 12:48

I was looking for exactly this and found it with Boden. Tights that don't lose their shape / go flappy around the knees / bobble. Firm but not like exercise wear firm so you can wear them lounging about the house.

www.boden.co.uk/en-gb/favourite-leggings-black/sty-j0930-blk

They come in a 'long'. £22 but you can use code G4X2 for 20% off. You're welcome :) :)

Thank you! I did have a look at these, they wash well then?

The ruched hem ones are part of the “all-day” type of leggings and they are nice too, still very soft. You are right as I would say they are more like fashion leggings rather than sporty as they don’t have all that fancy technical fabric going on.

The material is thinner than the super sculpts (not see through) but defo something you could wear under a dress. They don’t have the pockets like the others do.

Frequentflier · 12/04/2021 13:11

Second Uniqlo Airism. Had 2 pairs for 6 months now and washed repeatedly. Still as good as new.

What's the leg length like? They look fairly short on the 5'9" model on the site.

Lululemon are amazing but pricey.

MainliningChocolate · 12/04/2021 13:18

I am 6ft1 and wear Spanx leggings. Pricy but are not see through. The sell on Asos, I have brought on the discount days. It is hard to find quality longer length leggings

Extrapepperoni · 14/04/2021 23:31

@floofycroissant They sure do!
