50+ Where do you buy clothes?

In the past I've bought most of mine from M&S or Next as I could always find items, easy returns and to be honest near the bus stop! I find less and less I see clothes I like in these stores and looking for inspiration.

I like Boden and Joules and sometimes Whitestuff too . A bit pricey but they have gateway sales, fit well and last for ages .

LunaNorth · 09/04/2021 08:26

I’m 47 in May, so close enough. I buy from:

Hush
Om and Ah
White Stuff
eBay
Toast
Sweaty Betty
Wolf and Badger
Boden
Wyse
Oliver Bonas
And Other Stories
Anthropologie
Zara

Mainly these days I see items I like on Instagram or wherever, and get them from random places online. If I want something basic like jeans or whatever, Hush and Boden are my go-to’s, but I’ve got bits and bobs from all sorts of places.

Nanasueathome · 09/04/2021 09:00

Toast
Seasalt

onlyconnect · 09/04/2021 09:42

Unless you're naturally very stylish, I think as you get older most people look better if they spend a bit more on fewer, better quality clothes.

I like Jigsaw ( although not as much as I did as their fabrics aren't what they were), John Lewis, All Saints for the odd thing, Boden very carefully chosen, Cos, Whistles sometimes. I'm lucky too in that there are two independent shops near me selling a range of brands that are good quality ( unhelpful to you I know).
BiggerBoat1 · 09/04/2021 09:45

Over 50 here. I love Seasalt but can only afford in the sales. I also love Nomads. I like M&Co because their sizing is good. I also buy from Sainsbury and Ebay to keep costs down. I avoid Next because I feel everyone will be wearing what I'm wearing and probably looking better in it!

bendmeoverbackwards · 09/04/2021 09:49

I’m 49.

Jigsaw
Whistles
Boden
Mint Velvet
Hush
Toast
M&S
Fat Face

Superstardjs · 09/04/2021 09:51

Late 40s.. I struggle because I just don't seem to like much at the moment. I suspect this is increased girth plus lack of need, but I'm as sick of clothes as I am of cooking.
Anyway. When I do shop, similar to onlyconnect I tend to go to John Lewis for the range, Whistles (although much less than I used to, some of their stuff is horrible fabrics or odd shapes) or All Saints. However, for my day job, I tend to stick to my 'uniform' from M&S and H&M.

mommybunny · 09/04/2021 10:05

I’m 54 and have been on a bit of a Mint Velvet (via John Lewis) kick lately. I also have quite a few pieces from the White Company, though have found that their quality isn’t always worth the price. Gap has always been good for basics but they closed the shop in my local high street 😩.

I have also been getting inspiration from Instagram, YouTube and Pinterest for outfits but more for using what I already have. Some accounts I follow are Fashion and Style Edit, Busbee Style and Slow Fashion (Alyssa Beltempo).

JMAngel1 · 09/04/2021 10:09

49 here.
Zara
Mango
H&M
ASOS
SheIn
Zalando
Amazon

I still think I’m 29 Grin
But seriously, I’m very petite and so many of the clothes for my age have vanity sizing which mean they swamp me. So I have to stick to the younger shops. However there are always classic items there mixed in with a few high trend bits each season. So it works well for me and my back account.

JMAngel1 · 09/04/2021 10:10

Oh I love Erin at Busbee Style too @mommybunny

JMAngel1 · 09/04/2021 10:11

That was bank account!

RaraRachael · 09/04/2021 10:14

Good thread as I'm in the same boar as the PP. I tend to buy workwear from Next as in a school it could get messy! I've thrown away so many clothes over lockdown and don't like online shopping as more stuff is returned than kept. Sadly there will be hardly any shops left in our local centre when lockdown ends so I will probably have to go online.
I am in the process of losing weight so looking forward to treating myself to some better quality stuff once I've reached my target.

mommybunny · 09/04/2021 10:20

@JMAngel1

If you like Busbee Style (which I agree is great for petite styling) give Fashion and Style Edit a look. What frustrates me about Busbee Style is that so much of the clothes she features aren’t available in the U.K. at any price, but Jess from FaSE is in the U.K. and so everything she links to is available here. While she has a huge Sezane habit (and so would I, if given the chance), she also features lots from the U.K. high street. She’s early-mid 40s I think, and though I think she’s quite tall I really like her style.

JMAngel1 · 09/04/2021 10:41

@mommybunny. I watch Jess too sometimes Grin. Clearly I’m on YT too much. She is very spendy for me and a tad too classic but she is good for looking for backbone items like a good camel coat or blazer. Very calm voice too.
My absolute favourite, although she’s only on Instagram, is Lucy’s Whims. USA based again but lord that girl can dress!

Picassosdove · 09/04/2021 10:45

Whistles
Hush
M and S (cashmere jumpers and hoodies)
Jigsaw (t shirts)
The odd bit from Sezanne
Wool coats from Boden
Air and Grace boots, sandals, trainers

mommybunny · 09/04/2021 11:24

Interesting @JMAngel1, Erin puts me off slightly because I find her mega-spendy. To be fair she usually does link lower-cost dupes when she features her Veronica Beard blazer but in general I have been giving her videos lately a miss as the styles I’m seeing on the front pages are getting almost a bit wacky. And I find Jess’s classic-ness right up my alley.

You do you 😎.

Suki2 · 09/04/2021 13:13

Just watched Jess for the first time, loved it, but how do I find out where to buy the outfits she's wearing? Is she promoting certain brands or is the idea just to buy vaguely similar items?

Soothes · 09/04/2021 13:17

Almost everything I've bought this year seems to have come from Monsoon.

LovingBob · 09/04/2021 13:21

Seasalt, Fatface, Whitestuff and because I am fairly tall, Next tall

Leopardskin · 09/04/2021 13:25

Same places as before but my tastes have evolved

Leopardskin · 09/04/2021 13:25

A bit!

mommybunny · 09/04/2021 13:30

@Suki2 If you’re watching YouTube usually her outfits have links in the description box.

DareDevil223 · 09/04/2021 14:02

A lot of my clothes come from Baukjen, Saint & Sofia and Hope Fashion. All good quality. Not cheap but worth it.

Suki2 · 09/04/2021 14:05

@mommybunny thank you!

beguilingeyes · 09/04/2021 14:18

Ebay mostly these days. I really like Phase Eight, but almost everything now from ebay. More spendy brands at rock-bottom prices. I just search for brands I like.

I'm coming up to 60. New stuff is mostly underwear and shoes now.
