I want a long floral maxi dress. Something that a girl in a Flake ad would wear

But sadly I can't find it.

You know what I mean, the sort of dress that demands a floppy hat and a wildflower meadow. A dress with fabric that swooshes.
A dress that screams HELLO THE 70's!

Anyone come across anything this glorious?
A puff sleeve would be a definite advantage.

Ba&sh excels at this sort of thing

Sorry that should be cocofennell.com

Check our Roxy. Gorgeous floaty dresses.

I ordered three lovely long floaty dresses from here and they are all gorgeous, and importantly for me they have room for breasts which is pretty rare in a summer dress.

H&M emailed me a complete set of Timoteitastic floral frocks yesterday at extremely reasonable prices in cotton and linen. Wildly unsuitable for my lifestyle/age/height but I would get vicarious pleasure from someone else buying them.

Unfortunately their website is down for maintenance at the mo.

I had my eye on this oasis dress www.oasis-stores.com/ditsy-print-beaded-dress-/AAA00145.html - but it was out of stock in my size then I accidentally bought 2 midi dresses in Oliver Bonas yesterday when I walked past it with DD taking her to the toy shop to spent her Christmas money.

So now its back in stock in my size and I cant justify buying a 3rd dress, although neither of my dresses will make me a flake girl so think this might be justified on those grounds if this is a thing we are doing this year...

I'm trying to convince myself it would be too long anyway as I'm short. Its lovely though.

@BigBirdsbird

Hang on! One size! What craziness is this now?
This is Olive, right?

Yeah. It’s odd. And not very consistent either.

They have some lovely stuff and have really improved the attention to detail on their items over the years but it can be very hit and miss.

I’m a size 6 which I appreciate isn’t a normal size for an adult but it’s health related rather than any excessively pious vanity or the like.

Some items for which I was told to expect a boxy fit are hilariously tent like while others fit like a glove.

I like Olive generally and have bought things from there that I have worn to death and on the flip side, at least returns are simple. But I wish they’d consider attempting some actual sizing.

I would recommend a site called SilkFred, some gorgeous dresses on there

Another one who loves the Christy Dawn dresses. That’s my birthday sorted OP. Thanks 😃

Sprining · 13/04/2021 18:59

To add, I love they provide the name of the dressmaker and the costs in detail. Amazing!

Weirdly I found myself browsing All Saints this morning, for the first time in about fifteen years, and saw this which bears some resemblance to the Free People dress.

I really like Hope & Ivy at the moment 😍

I am always very tempted by these dresses but not sure I could carry off the look (being short and very curvy!)

God theres so many lovely flake lady dresses at the moment.

Its clearly the style icon we all need.

Can we do a good floppy sun hat thread next?

MissBarbary · 13/04/2021 22:52

Erdem are beautiful too.

This is more Jane Austen than Glastonbury but I have fallen in love with this dress. Goodness knows when I'd wear it.

Codswallopcurry · 14/04/2021 11:26

You need a Gunne Saxe. They were the real thing, floral, puffy sleeves....you can track them down on ebay.

EllaPaella · 14/04/2021 12:10

The Free People dress up thread is divine, had it not been for the huge slit up the leg I would have ordered it but I like my legs to be covered up. Keep an eye on Sezane for the archive sales, I picked up a beautiful pure silk maxi dress last summer for £80.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 14/04/2021 13:37

You might find something suitable on the Anthropologie website?

ReggaetonLente · 14/04/2021 13:39

Om Baby is a gorgeous independent clothing maker. I have a maxi from her which makes me feel like that girl!
