Does anyone know how people get this wavy choppy look?

I see it everywhere these days (online anyway).

It looks lovely but I have no idea how to achieve it. Is it a specific cut at the hairdressers (if so - does it have a name?)

And do you realistically need to use curlers for this look?

My hair is straight and quite heavy and I'm not sure it would cope with curlers every day not sure I could be arsed.

@Rooroobear

I have a mermaid hair waver to get my hair like this x
I just googled this. It looks very effective....I don't think I'm their target market though (early soon to be mid 40s). Blush So much pink!

Hahaha, mine are silver. I’m sure I got them from boots and they work so well, although it’s not often I do my hair like this but it looks lovely when I do x

Ah, we all wanted the rachel. All that blowdrying at the salon, yet you never saw anyone IRL rocking the look.

I don't even like that choppy bob.

i think it was this photo I took to the hairdressers, back at peak rachel.

Hairdresser is a genius and I have wavy hair but I'm no meg ryan

Mine just does it when it’s air dried. I spend forever blow drying and straightening to get rid of it.

I bought a waver thing also. Rubbish with straighteners. Give same look. Dead easy. It was about £25

I got a mermaid hair attachment but it just gives chunky crimps. Not lovely waves.

elsaesmeralda · 08/04/2021 19:40

I also found the mermaid waver thing didn't give me nice waves, they come out better with the straighteners

I can achieve similar(ish) by putting my hair in a tight french plait when wet and leaving it like that to dry thoroughly.
